ThePerth SpeedDome is avelodrome inMidvale, Western Australia,Australia. It is Western Australia's only indoor velodrome.[1] It was designed byGermanarchitectRalph Schürmann[1][2] and constructed under the supervision of English velodrome specialist Ron Webb.[1][3] The SpeedDome was opened in November 1989, replacing theLake Monger Velodrome, an old outdoor concrete velodrome inMount Hawthorn.[4]
The SpeedDome hosted the1997 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, as well as the annualPerth International Track Cycling Grand Prix. It regularly hosts training camps forGreat Britain,Netherlands,Japan andNew Zealand track cycling teams.[5]
The track is 250 metres (820 ft) long and made of high gradeSiberian pine.[4] It has seats for 1,500 people with facilities available for up to 2,300 people. In the centre of the cycling track is a multipurpose concrete floor used forinline hockey,figure,speed skating androller derby.[1] A purpose-builtkick boxinggymnasium is located underneath the cycling track.[1] Additional facilities include three media boxes, tenant and administration offices, competitors reception area and competitor and officials change rooms.[5]
The complex also has a 700-metre outdoor criterium track, incorporating a bicycle training facility.[4]
