Palaemon elegans sometimes known by the common namerockpool shrimp, is aspecies ofshrimp of thefamilyPalaemonidae. It is native to the easternNorth Atlantic (includingMacaronesia), theBaltic, theMediterranean and theBlack Sea, and introduced in theCaspian andAral seas. It is similar to three other members of the genusPalaemon:Palaemon serratus,Palaemon longirostris andPalaemon adspersus, and has displaced or replaced populations ofPalaemon adspersus in some locations.[1][2] It is considered an invasive species in parts of the United States.[3]
