Nepal Standard Time (NPT) is thetime zone forNepal.[1] With a time offset fromCoordinated Universal Time (UTC) ofUTC+05:45 all over Nepal,[2][3] it is one of only three time zones with a 45-minute offset from UTC.[n 1][4]

Calculation
editNPT is an approximation ofKathmandumean time, which is 5:41:16 ahead ofUTC. The standard meridian passes through the peak ofGaurishankar mountain about 100 kilometres (62 mi) east of Kathmandu.[2]
History
editNepal used localsolar time until the year 1920, in Kathmandu UTC+05:41:16. In 1920, Nepal adoptedIndian Standard Time,UTC+05:30. In 1986 Nepal advanced their clocks by 15 minutes, giving them a time zone ofUTC+05:45.[5]
