Lima Puluh Kota Regency (meaningfifty towns in theMinangkabau language) is aregency(kabupaten) ofWest Sumatra province,Indonesia. It has an area of 3,273.40 km2 and a population of 348,249 according to the 2010 census[2] and 383,525 according to the 2020 census;[3] the official estimate as of mid 2023 was 396.437 - comprising 198,680 males and 197,747 females.[1] Theregency seat is the town ofSarilamak (in Harau District).

editLima Puluh Kota Regency is divided into thirteendistricts (kecamatan), listed below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 census[2] and the 2020 census,[3] together with the official estimates as of mid 2023.[1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the numbers of administrative villages (nagari) in each district, and its post codes.

Harau Canyon
editHarau Canyon is known as the IndonesianYosemite. There are 4 waterfalls here with heights of 50–90 metres. The cliffs are around 80 to 300 metres high and (rope) climbing guides are available.[4]
Butterfly Park
editSince 1 January 2012, Aka Barayun Butterfly Park near Harau Canyon has opened for free. Butterfly breeding cages are still in preparation along with some animals as a mini zoo.[5]
Kelok Sembilan Bridge
editKelok Sembilan Bridge which connects West Sumatra Province andRiau Province at 143-148 kilometres was officially opened on 31 October 2013. Kelok Sembilan Bridge is also called Kelok Sembilan Overpass, because it is over the old Kelok 44.The first stage of the bridge is 720 metres with a 4 kilometre long access road, the second stage is a 250 metre bridge with a 1 kilometre access road.[6] The bridge is estimated to save vehicle and passenger costs of up to Rp134.5 billion per year.[7] The bridge itself cost Rp550 billion ($49.5 million).[8]
