KBM was founded on 11 April 1942 by order 1576 of theState Defence Committee for themortar designs. Its first chief wasBoris Shavyrin. The company was awarded theOrder of Lenin and theOrder of Labour Red Banner.
Former names includeSKB-101,SKB-GA (Russian:Специальное конструкторское бюро гладкоствольной артиллерии, СКБ ГА,lit. 'Special KB (Design Bureau) of smooth-bore artillery'). The company is also sometimes known asKolomna Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau.
The company is part of theHigh Precision Systems group.[1]
Its main constructors wereSergey Nepobedimiy andAndranik Ter-Stepaniyan.
