Judy Leavitt Walker is an American mathematician. She is the Aaron Douglas Professor of Mathematics at theUniversity of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she chaired the mathematics department from 2012 through 2016 and currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs. Her research is in the area ofalgebraic coding theory.[1]

Education
editWalker graduated from theUniversity of Michigan in 1990,[1] and went on to graduate studies at theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, earning her Ph.D. in 1996 under the supervision ofNigel Boston.[1][3]
Career
editShe joined the University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty in 1996, was promoted to full professor in 2006 and took up the Aaron Douglas Professorship in 2012.[1] She held a visiting professorship atÉcole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) during fall 2011.
Academic interests
editWalker's research is incoding theory, i.e., the study of error-correcting codes. Her primary contributions have been in algebraic geometry codes andlow-density parity check codes.
