Jehu (UK:/ˈdʒiːhjuː/,US:/ˈdʒiːhuː/;[1]Hebrew:יֵהוּאYēhūʾ, "Yah is He")[2] son ofHanani was a prophet mentioned in theHebrew Bible, who was active during the 9th century BC.

Biblical account
editAccording to the Bible, Jehu condemnedBaasha, king ofIsrael, and theHouse of Baasha (1 Kings 16:7), accusing him of leading the people into thesin of idolatry like his predecessorJeroboam. Jehu foretold that:
- surely [God] will take away the posterity of Baasha and the posterity of his house, and ... will make your house like thehouse of Jeroboam the son ofNebat. The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the fields.[3]
His words were fulfilled in the reign ofElah, Baasha's son, when the traitorZimri assassinated Elah and murdered all of Baasha's family and associates. (1 Kings 16:1,7,12)
Jehu also challengedJehoshaphat, king of Judah. Jehoshaphat's alliance withAhab ended in the latter's death at theBattle of Ramoth-Gilead. Jehoshaphat returned safely, but Jehu rebuked him for helping the wicked king Ahab. He went on to say that nevertheless theLord found good in the king, as he had removed theAsherah poles from the land and set his heart to seek God. (2 Chronicles 19:2–3)
