Pyrgus is agenus in the skippersbutterfly family,Hesperiidae, known as thegrizzled skippers. The name "checkered" or "chequered skipper" may also be applied to some species, but also refers to species in the generaBurnsius andCarterocephalus. They occur in theHolarctic with an additional group of species extending to theNeotropic.
