Gregg Edelman

Gregg Edelman (born September 12, 1958) is an American actor. He has starred in numerousBroadway productions earning fourTony Award nominations for his roles inCity of Angels (1990),Anna Karenina (1993),1776 (1998), andInto the Woods (2002). His other Broadway credits includeCabaret (1987),Anything Goes (1989),Falsettos (1992),Passion (1994),Les Misérables (1999),The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2012), andWater for Elephants (2024).

Edelman made his film debut inThe Manhattan Project (1989). Edelman has since acted in films such asCrimes and Misdemeanors (1989),Spider-Man 2 (2004),Little Children (2006),The Proposal (2009), andShe Said (2022). He has also taken recurring roles in shows such as theNBC police proceduralShades of Blue, theNetflix political dramaHouse of Cards, and theUSA Network seriesThe Sinner.

Early life and education

Edelman was born in Chicago, Illinois, attendedNiles North High School, where he starred as Li'l Abner opposite future soap starNancy Lee Grahn, and was trained atNorthwestern University (Evanston, Illinois).

Career

He made his professional debut in the 1979 tour ofEvita and started attracting attention for his performance as Cliff in the 1987 Broadway revival ofCabaret. Personal life

He was married from 1995 to 2015 to actressCarolee Carmello; they first met during the run ofCity of Angels, and later during another production.[2] They have two children, a daughter Zoe and son Ethan.[3]

Friend andAcademy Award winning actorJ.K. Simmons credited Edelman for helping him when he was a struggling actor.[4]
