Geoemyda was used as a "wastebin taxon" in former times, uniting a number of distinct lineages of forest turtles fromEast andSoutheast Asia. These are now regarded as distinct and placed in the generaHeosemys,Leucocephalon,Melanochelys,Siebenrockiella (includingPanayanemys), andVijayachelys.
