Dem Wappen liegt das aus dem 12. Jahrhundert stammende Gerichts- und Schöffensiegel zugrunde. Es führt den Heinsberger Löwen in der Farbe des Herzogtums Jülich.“ Das Wappen ist aus dem Gerichts- und Schöffensiegel entstanden, das Gangelt im 12. Jahrhundert erhalten hat. Es handelt sich um den Heinsberger Löwen in der Farbe des Herzogtums Jülich. English:„Gangelt was in the 13th century a possession of the Lords of Heinsberg. The oldest seal, which dates from the late 13th century, thus shows the double-tailed lion of the Lords of Heinsberg with a bend between its paws, probably to distinguish the seal from the seal of the city of Heinsberg. In 1484 Gangelt and the rest of Heinsberg became a possession of the Dukes of Jülich. Although the arms basically did not change, the lion has ever since been coloured in the colours of the lion of Jülich. The additions in 1972 did not change the arms. “
