Euan Douglas George Morton (bornIain Middleton; 13 August 1977) is a Scottish actor and singer fromBorrowstounness,Scotland. He is best known for his role asBoy George in the musicalTaboo, receiving nominations for theLaurence Olivier Award andTony Award for his performance. He played the role ofKing George in the musicalHamilton on Broadway from July 2017 to 10 September 2023.

Early life
editMorton was born inBorrowstounness. He began acting in his local children's theatre. After graduating fromMountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, Morton worked for Profit Share Theatre and for film and television in the UK.[1]
Career

editMorton appeared inThe Silent Treatment at theFinborough Theatre, London, in 2001. He then played the role of Boy George in the musicalTaboo in theWest End in 2002,[2] and onBroadway in 2003.[3] He was nominated for aLaurence Olivier Award in the UK, and aTony Award,Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award andDrama League Award, and received aTheatre World Award in the US, for his performance in the role ofBoy George.[citation needed]
He played the role of Ligniere in the play "Cyrano de Bergerac" from October 2007 to January 2008 on Broadway at theRichard Rodgers Theatre.[4] Morton performed in the musical revueSondheim on Sondheim, conceived and directed byJames Lapine in 2010, which premiered on Broadway atStudio 54 and was presented by the Roundabout Theatre.[5]
Off-Broadway, he appeared in the title role ofTony Kushner's adaptation ofBrundibar at TheNew Victory Theater in 2006.[6] He won the 2006Obie Award for his appearance inMeasure For Pleasure atThe Public Theater.[7] He played the title role in the musicalCaligula: An Ancient Glam Epic at the inaugural New York Musical Theatre Festival in September 2004.[8] He appeared, along withAlfred Molina, in theRoundabout Theatre Company's new production ofHoward Katz byPatrick Marber, which ran Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theater from 1 March 2007 to 6 May 2007.[9] He appeared in the musicalAtomic which ran at the Acorn Theatre from 13 July 2014 to 16 August 2014, in the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer.[10]
In regional theatre, he played the title role inThe Who's Tommy at the Bay Street Theatre inSag Harbor, New York in the year 2006.[11] In 2010, he played Anatoly Sergievsky in theSignature Theatre (Arlington, Virginia) production ofChess.[12] In 2011, he played the role of Launce inTwo Gentlemen of Verona atShakespeare Theatre Company. He appeared in the playHeart of Robin Hood, written byDavid Farr, which played in Winnipeg and Toronto in December 2014 through March 2015, in the role of Prince John.[13]
Morton won aHelen Hayes Award for his performance as Leo Frank in the musicalParade atFord's Theatre in Washington, D.C. from September to October 2011.[14] Also in 2011, he sang the role of Renfield in the 2011 studio recording of Frank Wildhorn'sDracula, the Musical, singing "Master's Song" and the reprise of that song.[citation needed] He played the role ofSherlock Holmes inKen Ludwig'sBaskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery at theOld Globe Theatre inSan Diego, California, in 2015.[15] He assumed the role of Hedwig in the US tour ofHedwig and The Angry Inch from November 2016[16] to July 2017.[citation needed]
He took over the role of King George inHamilton on Broadway in July 2017[17] and played the role until September 2023.[citation needed]
Voice work
editMorton has performed numerous audio books, including among others,Fool (2009),Sacré Bleu (2012), andThe Serpent of Venice (2014), all written byChristopher Moore, in addition to theKilo Five trilogy byKaren Traviss andCarry On byRainbow Rowell (2015). He also did voice work in the 2009 animated movieMy Dog Tulip, and voices the male Sith Inquisitor in theMMORPGStar Wars: The Old Republic, created byBioWare andLucasArts.[citation needed]. He also voiced the 9.5 hour long audiobookStar Wars: Tarkin released in November 2014.
Music career
editIn March 2006, he released his debut solo CD,NewClear, for which he toured in the US in May 2011, he released his second solo studio album Caledonia – The Homecoming.
Personal life
editMorton has been married to American producer Lee Armitage, daughter of political figureRichard L. Armitage, since 2004. Their sonIain made his debut as an internet theatre critic, where he reviews Broadway shows and has conducted Red Carpet interviews forSiriusXM radio before the2015 Tony Awards.[18] Iain played the title character in the television showYoung Sheldon. Morton and his family maintain homes inManhattan andArlington, Virginia.
In 2017 Morton said that he didn't identify with any particular label on hissexuality, saying "I wouldn't label myself any sexuality and I would prefer if you didn't. If I call myself straight then it turns into me being straight, or gay makes me gay, or transgender then transgender."[19]
