TheEnvironment Council (ENVI) is a configuration of theCouncil of the European Union.^[1] It meets about four times a year. It brings together theenvironment ministers and is responsible for theEU environment policy.^[2]

This Council deals withenvironmental protection, climate change, prudent use of resources and protection of human health.^[3]

In this regard, the Council adopts legislation together with theEuropean Parliament in relation to:

protection of natural habitats
clean air and water
properwaste disposal
toxic chemicals
sustainable economy

The council can deal with international issues which go far beyond the borders of the European Union, for example theOpen Coalition on Compliance Carbon Markets.^[4]
