Eclipse (yacht)

M/YEclipse is asuperyacht built byBlohm+Voss ofHamburg, Germany, the third longest yacht afloat. Her exterior and interior were designed by Terence Disdale. The yacht is owned by Russian businessmanRoman Abramovich, and was delivered on 9 December 2010. At 162.5 metres (533 ft 2 in) long[5]Eclipse was theworld's longest private yacht untilAzzam was launched in April 2013, which is 17.3 metres (56 ft 9 in) longer.[7] The yacht's cost has been estimated at €340 million.[2]

Features

Eclipse has two helicopter pads, 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, several hot tubs, and a disco hall.[8] She is also equipped with three launch boats and a mini-submarine that is capable of submerging to 50 metres (160 ft). Approximately 70 crew members are needed to operate the yacht and serve the guests.

For security,Eclipse is fitted with a missile detection system[2] and self-defense systems.[9]

By 2009,Eclipse was also the largest vessel employing a rotor-basedstabilization system[10] againstroll motion at anchor and at low cruise speeds, based on theMagnus effect.[11][non-primary source needed]

Eclipse waslaunched on 12 June 2009.[12] She arrived inFrederikshavn, Denmark, on 18 September 2009, for sea trials, and was delivered to Abramovich on 9 December 2010.[3] First pictures of the completed yacht were taken atKristiansand, Norway, during her refuelling.[13]

In February 2011Eclipse was made available for charter through SuperYachtsMonaco, a Monaco-based yacht brokerage company.[14]

Eclipse travels toSt. Martin in the Caribbean each winter to pick up guests who fly in to St. Martin's airport. The yacht then travels to Abramovich's home on nearbySt. Barts.[15] In March 2022Forbes reported thatEclipse was still owned by Abramovich. Since theRussian invasion of Ukraine, the yacht has anchored in Turkish territorial waters on theSouth Aegean coast ofMuğla Province.[16] She has been seen atBodrum andMarmaris,[17][16] and was still registered in Bermuda with value of $438 million.[18]
