Dragan Gašević is Professor ofLearning Analytics atMonash University. He is a researcher in learning analytics and co-developed several software systems such as P3,[1] rBPMN Editor,[2] LOCO-Analyst,[3] OnTask,[4] OVAL,[5] and ProSolo.[6] He is recognized as Australia's field leader in educational technologies.[7]

Early life and education

Gašević obtained a bachelor's degree incomputer science from the Military Technical Academy in Belgrade, Serbia, and a masters incomputer science (software engineering) & a doctorate incomputer science (artificial intelligence) both from theUniversity of Belgrade.[8] His doctoral supervisor wasVladan Devedžić.

Career

Gašević worked as Postdoctoral Fellow atSimon Fraser University, as Assistant to Full Professor (January 2007 - January 2015) atAthabasca University, as Professor andSir Tim O'Shea Chair inLearning Analytics andInformatics (February 2015 - February 2018) at theUniversity of Edinburgh, and as Professor of Learning Analytics atMonash University (February 2018 – present). He served as the Canada Research Chair in Semantic and Learning Technologies atAthabasca University (January 2009 - January 2014).[9] He served as Co-Director (Learning Analytics) of the Centre for Research inDigital Education at theUniversity of Edinburgh (November 2015 - February 2018).[10]

He is a co-founder and was the President (2015-2017) of theSociety for Learning Analytics Research.[11] He served as a founding program chair of theInternational Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge (LAK) in 2011 and 2012 and the general chair in 2016 and as a founding program chair of theLearning Analytics Summer Institute in 2013 and 2014. He served as a founding editor of theJournal of Learning Analytics (2012-2017)[12][13] and as an editor of theHandbook of Learning Analytics.[14]
