Dioxethedrin (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name), ordioxethedrine, also known as3,4-dihydroxy-N-ethylnorephedrine, is asympathomimeticmedication.[1][2][3] It was a component of theantitussivesyrupBexol (acombination of dioxethedrin,codeine, andpromethazine).[4][5] It is anephedrinederivative (and hence is aphenethylamine andamphetamine) and is described as abronchodilator andβ-adrenergic receptor agonist.[2][4]Analogues of dioxethedrin includedioxifedrine (α-methylepinephrine; 3,4-dihydroxyephedrine),corbadrine (levonordefrin; α-methylnorepinephrine), andα-methyldopamine.[1]
