Cucurbita martinezii is a plant species of the genusCucurbita[1][2][3] native toVeracruz, Mexico. Locals use halved fruit shells as shot glasses for alcoholic drinks. It has not beendomesticated. It is generally found in areas with rivers and forests.[3][4]

Some authorities consider it a subspecies ofCucurbita okeechobeensis.[5][6]
When the species wasformally described byLiberty Hyde Bailey in 1943, inGentes Herbarum, Bailey only had one specimen without flowers or roots to work with.[2]
