Chyhyryn Raion (Ukrainian:Чигири́нський райо́н) was araion (district) ofCherkasy Oblast, centralUkraine. Its administrative centre was located at the town ofChyhyryn. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Cherkasy Oblast to four. The area of Chyhyryn Raion was merged intoCherkasy Raion.[1][2] The last estimate of the raion population was25,410 (2020 est.)[3]

At the time of disestablishment, the raion consisted of twohromadas,Chyhyryn urban hromada with the administration in Chyhyryn andMedvedivka rural hromada with the administration in theselo ofMedvedivka.[4]
During theUkrainian War of Independence the region was proclaimed the "Kholodny Yar Republic" (led by localVasyl Chuchupak[5]) which strived for Ukrainian independence from theSoviet Union.[5][6] The Kholodny Yar Republic lasted from 1919 to 1922.[6]
