CYP2A7 (cytochromeP450, family2, subfamilyA, polypeptide7) is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theCYP2A7gene.[4][5]

This gene encodes a member of thecytochrome P450 superfamily ofenzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins aremonooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis ofcholesterol, steroids and otherlipids. This protein localizes to theendoplasmic reticulum; its substrate has not yet been determined. This gene, which produces two transcript variants, is part of a large cluster of cytochrome P450 genes from the CYP2A, CYP2B and CYP2F subfamilies on chromosome 19q.[6]
