Early life

edit

The son of two Brazilian expatriates fromGovernador Valadares,[7] Giacomini was born inCambridge, Massachusetts and raised inMalden. His interest in playing football began as Giacomini was brought to meetNew England Patriots quarterbackDrew Bledsoe at theBoston Marriott, where his father worked.[8] Giacomini was a three-year starter as adefensive end andoutside linebacker at Malden High School with Joe Morrisey. He started his freshman and sophomore years, but decided not to play football as a junior to concentrate on basketball, as he averaged 21.0 points per game as a senior and was second in the league in scoring. However, one of his high school football coaches convinced him to resume playing football for college.[4] Despite taking an almost two-year-long absence from football in high school, Giacomini was rated as a 2-star recruit by 247 Sports and a 3-star recruit by Rivals coming out of high school. Giacomini ultimately committed to play forLouisville, which was the lone Division I-A college program to offer him a scholarship.[9]
