Asana-Math is anOpenType mathematical font with advanced layout features based on theOpenType Math extensions. It was developed by Apostolos Syropoulos,[1] based on the Type 1pxfonts by Young Ryu.[2] Asana-Math is freely available under theOpen Font License. The wordAsana (Ἀσάνα, Asána) in theDoric dialect is the name of the Greek mythological goddessAthena. It is designed to look similar to, and to blend with,Palatino.[3]
The font can be used to typeset mathematics in Unicode using the free typesetting systemsXeTeX andLuaTeX, derivatives ofTeX, and withMicrosoft Office 2007. It was the first free font that could be used instead of Microsoft'sCambria Math with these applications.[citation needed]
