- January 25 – TheTreaty of Constantinople is signed between theOttoman Empire andRepublic of Venice, endingsixteen years of war between the two powers; Venice will cedeNegroponte,Lemnos andShkodër, and pay an annual sum of 10,000 goldducats.[1]
- April 25 – Ratification of the Treaty of Constantinople in Venice ends theSiege of Shkodra after fifteen months, and brings all ofAlbania under theOttoman Empire.
- May 13 –Christopher Columbus, an experienced mariner and successful trader in the thrivingGenoese expatriate community inPortugal, marries Felipa Perestrelo Moniz (Italian on her father's side), and receives asdowry her late father's maps and papers, charting the seas and winds around theMadeira Islands, and otherPortuguese possessions in theOcean Sea.
