"Abyssinia, Henry" is the 72nd episode of the American television seriesM*A*S*H, and the final episode of its third season. First aired on March 18, 1975, and written by Everett Greenbaum and Jim Fritzell, the episode was most notable for its shocking and unexpected ending. The episode's plot centers on thehonorable discharge and subsequent departure of the 4077th MASH's commander,Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake, played byMcLean Stevenson. The controversial ending, the reporting of Blake's death, has since been referenced and parodied many times. It prompted more than 1,000 letters to series producersGene Reynolds andLarry Gelbart, and drew fire from bothCBS and20th Century Fox. After the episode's production, both Stevenson andWayne Rogers, who playedTrapper John McIntyre, left the series to pursue other interests. These departures and their subsequent replacements signaled the beginning of a major shift in the series's focus. (Full article...)

Gatekeeper

Thegatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus) is a species of butterfly in the familyNymphalidae. Found across Europe, it is typically orange with two large brown spots on its wings and a brown pattern on the edge of its wings, although a large number of aberrant forms are known. The eyespots on the fore wings most likely reduce bird attacks; the gatekeeper is therefore often seen resting with its wings open. Colonies vary in size depending on the available habitat, and can range from a few dozen to several thousand butterflies. This male gatekeeper was photographed inBernwood Forest in Buckinghamshire, England. The photograph wasfocus-stacked from 15 separate images.
