McCullough, aformer Pirate, returnsto his alma mater after spending three seasons as acatcher in the Cleveland Indians organization.During his three-year career, he spent time withthe Burlington Indians, Lake County Captains,Kinston Indians, Akron Aeros and Buffalo Bisons.McCullough[apos]s best season came during his rookiecampaign with Burlington when he batted .278with three doubles and a career-high eight RBI.
McCullough, who will complete is undergraduatedegree in communications this spring, started140 of 186 collegiate games played at ECU andVanderbilt. During his three-year career at ECU,he helped the Pirates to three consecutive NCAATournament appearances, which included No. 1regional seeds in 2000 (Lafayette Regional), 2001 (Wilson Regional) as well as the schools first everNational Seed (No. 7) in 2001.
During his senior campaign, McCulloughguided the Pirates to their first Conference USATournament championship and a No. 2 seed inthe Clemson Regional, where he was named to theNCAA All-Regional team.
Throughout his collegiate career, McCulloughbatted .272 (139-for-512) with 11home runs and 82 RBI, while earning secondteamAll-Colonial Athletic Association honors(junior) and being named to a pair of NCAAAll-Region teams.
McCullough, a native of Greenville, N.C.,is the son of Howard and Eva McCullough.His father, Howard, lettered in baseball atECU in 1975-76 and is the head scout forMLB[apos]s Arizona Diamondbacks.
