Scientific expert groups
About us - scientific expert groups - landing
At ECHA, we rely on scientific expertise and work with four expert groups on specific areas. These groups offer guidance on various topics, from managing nanomaterials to assessing endocrine disruptors and other potentially harmful chemicals.
Our expert groups are important both for our own work in assessing chemicals, and for those impacted by the outcomes, including industry and the research community.
Our expert groups:
- help define testing strategies and assess and conclude on chemicals that are persistent, very persistent, bioaccumulative, very bioaccumulative, toxic, or endocrine disrupting;
- give scientific advice to our committees to inform their opinions, for example on the safety of nanomaterials; and
- strengthen the scientific basis for chemical assessment by combining knowledge from various research programmes.
Our expert groups consist of experts from various EU and international organisations, EU countries, and the European Commission. Their advice helps advance chemical safety in the EU.
