ABSTRACT
The ‘coaching’ brand is a positive one. Its image is aspirational and action-oriented, and coaches are seen as people who encourage and ‘stretch’ their clients (Yates 2011). This doesn’t mean that we are unrealistic or unempathetic about the realities of peoples’ lives, but it does mean that some of the new theories emerging from positive psychology and related disciplines seem to sit well with a coaching approach.
