Heliodor is the central kingdom of Erdrea, ruled byKing Carnelian. The kingdom is divided into three sections, with the small high-class areas being situated closest to the castle, the larger middle-class in the center, and the poverty stricken slums below ground behind the largest rampart and the furthest from the castle.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Heliodor is the central kingdom within the world ofErdrea. TheLuminary first makes his way to this kingdom after he leaves his home town ofCobblestone. Once the Luminary reaches the entrance to Heliodor castle within the town, he is prevented entry by 2 guards; Then, the Luminary shows him the mark on his back hand. After seeing this, one of the guards leaves presumably to tell the king. Upon return of the guard the Luminary is let in. After making his way through the castle, he reaches the throne room in whichKing Carnelian is there to greet him with some of his guards. After some talk, the Luminary is thrown in the dungeons. This is where he meetsErik. The two then make their escape through thesewers. They eventually make their way back to the city fromDowntown Heliodor in order to look for Derk, Erik's old partner, who now runs his own shop in the wealthy district of the city. He informs them that theRed Orb has been taken tothe Kingsbarrow located to the southwest.

Heliodor takes center stage of the beginning of the game's third act after the Luminarytravels to the past to end the world of despair and replace it with one where the forces of evil never gain a foothold in Erdrea. This process begins atYggdrasil, where the Luminary is able to interceptJasper's ambush and kill him as King Carnelian andHendrik catch up with the knight. King Carnelian is still possessed byMordegon even in this new universe, but feigns ignorance to the heroes and invites the party to Heliodor castle to celebrate the uncovering that Jasper was "a traitor". During the night when King Carnelian seeks into the Luminary's room in a attempt to steal the sword of light, he is forced back bysome strange force. After finding him in the Throne Room in which it is revealed King Carnelian was under the control of Mordegon for the past sixteen years. Hendrik joins in the battle against the sorcerer, and once Mordegon is killed, King Carnelian is freed from his mind-control.
