Background
Site DescriptionThe Temple of Bel stood for 2000 years in Palmyra, Syria until its destruction by ISIS in late 2015. It featured many well preserved sculptures and paintings.
Project DescriptionThis reconstruction uses over 900 publicly available tourist images taken between 2006 and 2011. Photos were provided by a number of sources, including #NewPalmyra, Oxford University, and the Roman Society's Imago Database. Images were masked in Agisoft Metashape, removing skies, vegetation, and tourists. The model was processed with Reality Capture.
