Class AlgorithmParameters

java.lang.Object
java.security.AlgorithmParameters

public classAlgorithmParametersextendsObject
This class is used as an opaque representation of cryptographic parameters.

AnAlgorithmParameters object for managing the parameters for a particular algorithm can be obtained by calling one of thegetInstance factory methods (static methods that return instances of a given class).

Once anAlgorithmParameters object is obtained, it must be initialized via a call toinit, using an appropriate parameter specification or parameter encoding.

A transparent parameter specification is obtained from anAlgorithmParameters object via a call togetParameterSpec, and a byte encoding of the parameters is obtained via a call togetEncoded.

Every implementation of the Java platform is required to support the following standardAlgorithmParameters algorithms:

  • AES
  • DESede
  • DiffieHellman
  • DSA
These algorithms are described in the AlgorithmParameters section of the Java Security Standard Algorithm Names Specification. Consult the release documentation for your implementation to see if any other algorithms are supported.

      protected AlgorithmParameters(AlgorithmParametersSpi paramSpi,Provider provider,String algorithm)
      Creates anAlgorithmParameters object.
      Parameters:
      paramSpi - the delegate
      provider - the provider
      algorithm - the algorithm
  • Method Details

    • getAlgorithm

      public final String getAlgorithm()
Returns the name of the algorithm associated with this parameter object.
      Returns:
      the algorithm name.
    • getInstance

public static AlgorithmParameters getInstance(String algorithm) throwsNoSuchAlgorithmException
Returns a parameter object for the specified algorithm.

This method traverses the list of registered security providers, starting with the most preferred provider. A newAlgorithmParameters object encapsulating theAlgorithmParametersSpi implementation from the first provider that supports the specified algorithm is returned.

Note that the list of registered providers may be retrieved via theSecurity.getProviders() method.

The returned parameter object must be initialized via a call toinit, using an appropriate parameter specification or parameter encoding.

      Implementation Note:
The JDK Reference Implementation additionally uses thejdk.security.provider.preferredSecurity property to determine the preferred provider order for the specified algorithm. This may be different from the order of providers returned bySecurity.getProviders().
      Parameters:
algorithm - the name of the algorithm requested. See the AlgorithmParameters section in the Java Security Standard Algorithm Names Specification for information about standard algorithm names.
      Returns:
      the new parameter object
      Throws:
NoSuchAlgorithmException - if noProvider supports anAlgorithmParametersSpi implementation for the specified algorithm
      NullPointerException - ifalgorithm isnull
      See Also:
    • getInstance

Returns a parameter object for the specified algorithm.

A newAlgorithmParameters object encapsulating theAlgorithmParametersSpi implementation from the specified provider is returned. The specified provider must be registered in the security provider list.

Note that the list of registered providers may be retrieved via theSecurity.getProviders() method.

The returned parameter object must be initialized via a call toinit, using an appropriate parameter specification or parameter encoding.

      Parameters:
algorithm - the name of the algorithm requested. See the AlgorithmParameters section in the Java Security Standard Algorithm Names Specification for information about standard algorithm names.
provider - the name of the provider.
      Returns:
      the new parameter object
      Throws:
IllegalArgumentException - if the provider name isnull or empty
NoSuchAlgorithmException - if anAlgorithmParametersSpi implementation for the specified algorithm is not available from the specified provider
NoSuchProviderException - if the specified provider is not registered in the security provider list
      NullPointerException - ifalgorithm isnull

    • getInstance

public static AlgorithmParameters getInstance(String algorithm,Provider provider) throwsNoSuchAlgorithmException
Returns a parameter object for the specified algorithm.

A newAlgorithmParameters object encapsulating theAlgorithmParametersSpi implementation from the specified provider is returned. Note that the specified provider does not have to be registered in the provider list.

      Throws:
IllegalArgumentException - if the provider isnull
NoSuchAlgorithmException - if anAlgorithmParameterGeneratorSpi implementation for the specified algorithm is not available from the specifiedProvider object
      NullPointerException - ifalgorithm isnull
