View and copy Google Cloud dashboards

Google Cloud services such as Compute Engine, provide dashboards thatdisplay information, including metrics, about those services.Cloud Monitoring also deploys service-specific dashboards as you addresources to your Google Cloud project. For example, when you install a Compute Engine virtual machine (VM) instancein your Google Cloud project, Monitoring installs dashboards for theinstance and the disks.

This document describes how to view and, in some cases, copy the dashboardsthat Monitoring creates for your Google Cloud services. You can't delete or modify the automatically-created dashboards; however, whensupport for copying the dashboard exists, you can modify the copy. In general, you can also copy charts on a predefined dashboard to a dashboardthat you create.

Dashboards that you create are custom dashboards. Custom dashboardslet you display information that is of interest to you, organized in a way that's useful to you. For more information, seeCreate and manage custom dashboards.

By default, dashboards automatically refresh their display when newdata is available. For information about how to change this setting, seeDisable data refresh.

This feature is supported only for Google Cloud projects.ForApp Hubconfigurations, select the App Hub host project or management project.

Before you begin

Complete the following in the Google Cloud project that stores thedashboards that you want to view:

View dashboards for Google Cloud services

  1. In the Google Cloud console, go to the Dashboards page:

    Go toDashboards

If you use the search bar to find this page, then select the result whose subheading isMonitoring.

  2. In the toolbar of the Google Cloud console, select your Google Cloud project. ForApp Hubconfigurations, select the App Hub host project or management project.
  3. In theMy Dashboards pane, go toType, and then selectGoogle Services.
  4. To view the dashboard for a specific service, select that servicein the list of dashboards.

To find a dashboard, you can add filters to the filter bar. For example,to find all Google Kubernetes Engine dashboards, you might add the filterName: GKE. TheMy Dashboards pane only lists dashboards whose namecontainsGKE. When you addmultiple filters, and implicitAND is applied between filters unlessyou include anOR operator.

    • To view Google Kubernetes Engine performance data, examine thedashboards whose names begin withGKE.

For example, theGKE dashboard reports datain a tabular format about your clusters, namespaces, nodes, workloads, and services. In contrast, theGKE Compute Resources dashboard displays chartsthat show information about memory and CPU utilization.

    • To view metrics and logs for an individual VM, clickVM Instances, and then select the VM whose data you want to view.

Compute Engine also provides a dashboard for eachVM instance, and theObservability tab of that dashboard displays thesame metrics and logs that you can view from the dashboard provided byCloud Monitoring. For more information about the Compute Enginedashboard, seeObserve and monitor VMs.

    • To view the metrics for all of your VMs, clickGCE VM Instance Monitoring.

Create a custom dashboard by copying a Google Cloud service dashboard

You can't delete or modify the automatically-created dashboards; however, insome cases you can copy these dashboards. You can modify the content of thecopy, and you can delete the copy. For example, you might add widgets thatdisplay log data and delete uninteresting charts. You might also add labels, which can help you manage your dashboards,or configure which events the dashboard displays.

To create a copy of a dashboard for a Google Cloud service, do the following:

  1. In the Google Cloud console, go to the Dashboards page:

    Go toDashboards

If you use the search bar to find this page, then select the result whose subheading isMonitoring.

The new dashboard that you created is listed in theCustom category. Youcan add and remove widgets, reposition widgets, and resize widgets. You can also delete the dashboard. For more information about adding widgets, see the following pages:
