If Blender helped you with your projects this year, we're asking you to help us back.
For the past year, you've had access to professional 3D software, completely free. No subscriptions, no licenses, no limits. Blender has been there for your projects, your learning, your art, your business.
Today, we're asking for $5.
That's it. If every active Blender user contributed $5 this month, Blender Foundation would meet its entire yearly funding goal for 2026.

The 3D Cursor is a point in space that has both a location and a rotation. It’s used for a number of purposes. For example, it defines where newlyadded objects are placed, and can also be used to manually position and orientthe transform gizmo (seePivot PointandTransform Orientation). Some tools, such asBend, also use the Cursor.
There are a few methods to position the 3D Cursor.

Positioning the 3D Cursor with two orthogonal views.¶
The Cursor tool offers the most flexibility. Simply select it in the Toolbarand click a point in the scene withLMB to place the 3D Cursor there. In the tool settings, you can choose how it should be oriented:by default, it matches the view orientation, but you can also make itmatch the surface normal of a piece of geometry,or thetransform orientation.
Alternatively, you can pressShift-RMB with any tool selected. In this case, the 3D Cursor will always be aligned to the view orientation.
For accuracy you should use two perpendicular orthogonal 3D Viewports,i.e. any combination of topNumpad7, frontNumpad1 and sideNumpad3.That way you can control the positioning along two axes in one view anddetermine the depth in the other.
By default, the depth of the geometry under the cursor is used. This can be disabled using theCursor Surface Project togglein thePreferences.
