TheX-Buggy is a red modified dune buggy that appears inLilo & Stitch: The Series.Lilo andStitch often use the buggy in theirexperiment hunting.
The X-Buggy's basic appearance is likely based on theMeyers Manx.
Background[]
The buggy is first seen at the beginning ofStitch! The Movie being driven byJumba withPleakley in the other seat, arriving atLahui Beach to enjoy the day with theʻohana. Upon arriving in the beach's parking lot, Jumba drives straight through a guardrail, crashing off-screen, before backing into the parking space. Jumba complains, "Ridiculous Earth vehicle needs evil genius tune-up." Later in the film, afterCobra fails to start his car so he and Pleakley could meet withDr. Hämsterviel for the ransom at the establishedrendezvous point (as Lilo and Stitch hot-wired and stole his car earlier), he drives himself and Pleakley in the buggy to the location instead. Finally, at the end of the film, Lilo and Stitch take the buggy and drive away to begin what would become nearly three years of experiment hunting.
In theLilo & Stitch: The Series episode "Cannonball", Jumba restoresNani's old red dune buggy and converts it into an advanced means of transportation for capturing experiments, rechristening it the "X-Buggy". Lilo and Stitch usually take the X-Buggy on their adventures around Kauai to capture experiments, with Stitch driving the buggy as he is highly capable of driving any vehicle, and Lilo is too young to drive or get a driver's license (even though, as Nani points out in this episode, Stitch also doesn't have a driver's license).
Features[]
Jumba's modifications to the buggy have given it several unique features.
- Container Holder: A hatch located at the back of the buggy which is capable of holdingexperiment containers in place for easy transport.
- Turbo: A large hidden thruster allowing for the buggy to exceed its standard speed limit.
- Drill: Only seen when attempting to captureRichter, the buggy is transformed into a giant drill to gain easy access to the tunnel where Richter hid.
- Flight mode: Seen in multiple episodes, the buggy is able to hide its wheels, expose hidden wings, and use its turbo to become an aircraft (which is actually a nod to theflying cars of2015 fromBack to the Future Part II).
- Amphibious mode: Seen in the episode "Splodyhead", the buggy is capable of retracting its tires and speeding through the water with a hidden motor in the trunk. Upon returning to a land source, the tires are revealed once more to continue any expeditions on other islands.
