Snow White

Snow White (formerly known asMary Margaret Blanchard) is a character who appears inABC's fantasy seriesOnce Upon a Time. She is one of the central characters of the series. Here, she is the daughter ofKing Leopold andQueen Eva and the stepdaughter of theEvil Queen Regina. This Snow White lives in a medieval realm called the Enchanted Forest.

While helping her daughter rescueKillian Jones fromHades and helpingHercules in theunderworld, Mary Margret decided to officially change her name back toSnow White.

Background[]

Snow White was born toQueen Eva andKing Leopold in the Enchanted Forest in the late 1950s-early-60s.^[1] Snow was born during a snowstorm, which is now she was given her name.

Role in the series[]

Before the First Curse[]

Snow White grows up believing that royals are better than anyone else and that their staff members do not deserve to be treated with respect, established when she treats her mother's handmaiden,Johanna, poorly despiteQueen Eva's kindness towards Joanna.

Eva informs her daughter that just because they are royalty, it does not mean they should treat people differently. When Snow's eighth birthday approaches, her mother suddenly falls ill and Snow becomes incredibly concerned for Eva. Johanna contacts the royal doctor, but he has no idea what is wrong with the queen. Fearing her mother will die, Snow is determined to find a solution and Joanna tells her about afairy that should help her. Snow white visits the blue fairy who informs her that there is a magical candle that will heal the queen, but it comes with a price; the candle trades one life for another. Snow declines the offer as she has had a change of heart and does not believe someone else dying is fair while her mother lives. Snow returns to thecastle and sees her mother. She tells her mother about the candle, who tells her she is proud of her, seeing how responsible and kind Snow White has become. The queen then dies in front of Snow, who attends her mother's funeral on what was supposed to be a celebration for Snow's birthday. It is then revealed thatCora Mills disguised herself as the Blue Fairy to see if Snow would indeed trade one life for another.

Two years later, Regina rescues Snow from a runaway horse, and the two become instant friends. As a result, Leopold offers to marry Regina and provide Snow with a mother after the death of her biological one, and the kingdom with a Queen. However, Snow discovers that Regina loves the stable boy Daniel, but tries to keep it a secret after Regina explains true love. Unfortunately, Regina's mother Cora plays on Snow's feelings of losing a mother, causing the girl (not wanting Regina to suffer what she had and believing Cora merely wants her daughter's happiness) to reveal Regina's heart belongs to Daniel, leading to his death. Learning her role, Regina wanted Snow dead for revealing this secret and prevent her from having true love, as she was forced into a loveless marriage with Leopold instead.

When Snow is in her early teenhood, she is tasked with dealing with some bandits who are robbing the kingdoms' people. Regina tells the people that Snow will handle the bandits, which worries her as she leaves the castle. On her way out, Snow White falls into a hunter trap, where she is rescued by a handsome young man namedHercules, who she quickly develops a crush on and vice versa. Snow opens up to Herc about her issues with the bandits and Herc offers to train her to confront them, revealing his final labor isCerberus, the three-headed hellhound. However, when Snow White stands up to the bandits, she fails and Hercules scares them off. Unknownst to Snow White, Regina is the one who sent the bandits to prove that she would make a better queen than Snow. Snow White is about to give up until Hercules shows her his medals and reveals his secret that he almost died when facing his first labor, the minion lion. With this information, Snow decides to try again to face the bandits, and succeeds. Hercules asks Snow if she would like to join him face Cerberus and while she says she would like to, but can't abandon her kingdom. The two part ways with a kiss before Hercules goes to face the monster, but dies, which is unknown to Snow White.

Years later, Regina orchestrates Leopold's undoing, and the Huntsman is enlisted by the Queen to kill Snow, like in the Disney film, but he spares her for her selflessness. She continues living in the forest, stealing from the nobles of the Queen's domain in the hopes of collecting enough money to move out of the realm. She meetsPrince James while robbing him, and she nicknames him "Prince Charming" when he captures her to regain his stolen engagement ring, which she already sold. The pair falls in love on their journey to buy back the jewels, but he returns to his fiancée.

During this time, Snow runs into a barn for the night, where she meetsRed Riding Hood, whose barn she entered. The two become fast friends and Snow tells Red that she is being hunted by the queen's guards, so Red offers to help her. While this is going on, Red informs Snow that a wolf has been terrorising the village, and a hunting party is gathering that evening. Red encoureges Snow to help her find this wolf. Red becomes concerned that her boyfriend, Peter, could be the wolf after Snow comments about the wolf coming up to the window the night before, after following footprints back toGranny's home, where Red resides. Snow White later poses as Red in the bed, when Granny comes in, asking where her granddaughter is. Granny informs Snow that the wolf is actually Red, and that the family has a wolf curse that makes them transform every full moon, although Red is unaware of this. Granny and Snow search the woods for Red and find her, but she has no idea what happened or where Peter has gone. Granny tells Red that she was the wolf, not Peter, and they learn she accidentally killed her boyfriend. Red is horrorfied and has no choice but to flee, although she and Snow stay best friends beyond this.

After spending more time with Red, Snow is hiding with her in the woods, but Red's cloak is ripped, which greatly worries her as there is a full moon that night and fears she is endangering Snow. Red tells Snow she is going further into the woods, while Snow agrees to be apart, but just for that night. Snow White later finds the wolf hideout and finds Red in there, learning there are other people like her, including Red's mother,Anita Lucas. However, Anita tasks her daughter into killing Snow White, but she refuses so Anita transforms into a wolf to do it herself. However, Red saves Snow by accidentally killing her mother, telling Anita she chose herself. Snow White consoles Red when she buries her mother, to which Red says she saved her family that day, referring to Snow. Red says that Snow White is the only person who thinks it is okay for Red to be both human and wolf, while her mother andGranny wanted her to choose. The two continue their search for James.

Later realizing she and James can never be together, Snow White receives a potion fromRumplestiltskin that will erase all her memories of James. Shortly after, she gets a letter from James telling her to meet him at the castle if she loves him, so they can run away before he is married.

Snow goes to meet James, but his adoptive father,King George, catches her in the castle and forces her to tell James that she does not love him, or he will be killed in the image of a martyr. She then goes to live with the Seven Dwarfs. James breaks off his engagement, but she drinks the potion shortly before the news reaches her. The potion changes her into a mean-spirited and cruel person, and she realizes that her anger stems from the death of her father. Snow tries to kill Regina, the person responsible for her father's death, but James takes the arrow meant for the oblivious Queen. He tells her that he would rather die than let Snow become evil, and she realizes that no one else is willing to die for her. She kisses him and regains her memory. However, the pair is again separated when George's knights capture James. She and the dwarfs then set out to rescue James.

When Snow White returns to her castle, she is greeted byher stepmother, who takes her toDaniel's grave. Regina tells Snow that he died because of her and blames everything that she has done, on Snow White. Regina offers Snow an apple, which she decides to take despite the fact it is filled with poison, and Snow White collapses, leaving Regina feeling victorious. The Seven Dwarfs later find Snow lying lifeless on the ground and place her in a glass coffin, while David has been helped byRumplestiltskin in finding his love. David asks the dwarfs to lift the coffin so he can say goodbye and he kisses her. This kiss awakens the princess, as an act of true love. Snow and Charming embrace and he proposes marriage, which she happily accepts, as they vow to take back their kingdom. Snow White later saves Regina from being killed, but banishes her from the kingdom, but not before threatening to kill her evil stepmother if Regina returns to the kingdom or hurts anyone elese.

Snow is due to meet James' motherRuth in two days, when their group is found byKing George's men, who are after Charming. However, while the others flee, Snow is captured by one of the king's guards, namedLancelot, and taken to the castle, where George informs her that "Prince James" is actually named David, and he was posing as his late brother, calledJames, who King George and his wife adopted as a baby because they couldn't have kids of their own. Snow White is then blackmailed into being cursed so she can never have a child. After being tossed out, Snow is found by Lancelot, who reveals he had nothing to do with the king's actions, and helps her travel to the cabin. However, Ruth is soon hit by an arrow aimed at by the queen's guards. Snow arrives as Ruth is hit and meets her future mother-in-law. While on their way to lake Nostos, which is said to have magical healing waters, Snow tells Ruth that she was poisoned byKing George so that she can never have children. With help fromLancelot, Snow and Charming learn the lake is dried up but they find one little bit of magic left. Ruth tries to convince Snow to drink the water as it will cure her curse, but she refuses as she knows Ruth will die. Ruth then pretends to drink the water and wants to see Snow and Charming married as she is dying, so Snow getsLancelot to marry them inprontly. Snow drinks from the canteen and they are married just as Ruth passes away. After Charming buries his mother, Snow learns from Lancelot that Ruth made him switch the glasses so that Snow's curse is broken. She then informs Lancelot that her future child will indeed bea girl.

Some time after being cured, Snow and James are married for real and have an official ceremony, but the Queen arrives at the wedding to announce that she will place a curse on everyone to destroy Snow's happiness. This greatly worries Snow and she and James learn of a powerful wizard namedRumplestiltskin who has the ability to know the future. They inform him of the queen's plans and Rumplestitskin asks for their child's name. Although Charming refuses, Snow tells him their daughter is named Emma and Rumplesitskin tells them that their unborn baby will break the curse in 28 years.

Back at the castle, Snow gathers the dwarfs,Jiminy Cricket, theBlue Fairy,Pinochio, his fatherGippeto, and other people. Together they learn that there is magical wood that can be carved into a wardrobe, which Gippeto does for Snow and Charming. Snow White later gives birth months later to Emma and Charming places their baby in the wardrobe just as the queen's guards enter theroyal castle. The curse takes hold as Charming lies on the ground, seemingly lifeless and Snow cries as having lost her newborn. Snow notices that Emma has gone through the magical wardrobe and tells the queen that this means she will be defeated. The curse then takes everyone to the land without magic, as Snow cradles Charming.

During the First Curse[]

InStorybrooke, she isMary Margaret Blanchard. Immediately after the curse has transported everyone to the land without magic, Mary Margaret is teaching a class about birds when MayorRegina Mills visits, asking her how long Mary Margret had been a tracher at this school, to which shd says only as long as she can remember. Regina takes her to the hospital, and asks her if she recongises and knows the coma patient. Mary Margret has no idea who this man is and Regina tells her that he is a John Doe and no one has come for him in years. Mary Margret believes someone will come for him someday, but Regina believes that is very unlikely, before Mary Margret returns to the school and Regina feels victorious that her cursed worked.

Ten years later in 1993, Mary Margret is on her way to the hospital where she volunteers when she comes across a flower so decides to take it to the hospital. She visits coma patient John Doe and leaves the flower, which gets his attention. This awakens the coma patient, revealed to bePrince Charming, who recongizes her asSnow White which greatly confuses her as this man wants to find the evil queen. He tries to get Mary Margret to trust him when he tells her that they love each other and grabs her hand, which awakens Snow White from the curse. The two happily reunite and sneak around since everyone else in Storybrooke is still asleep under the curse. Snow and Charming try to find Emma and Snow suggests findingRumplestiltskin. When Charming calls Grumpy (who in this world is known asLeroy) by his real name, Snow apologises as they are the only two awake and no one else knows who they really are. While Charming learns that Rumplestitskin has awoken from the curse, upon hearing Emma's name, Snow White tries to distract Regina by telling her that the patient went into the woods. Rumple soon finds Snow and Charming and tells them they have to drink a potion that will allow them to regain their false memories, and that they can't go to Emma just yet because the curse has only been active for 10 years and Emma can only break it on her 28th birthday, eighteen years from now.

In the woods, Snow and Charming use the magical flower to open a door, where they find Emma at 10 years old, in a foster home. Just as Charming is about to go through to their daughter, Snow White stops him because she doesn't believe it is fair that their friends should suffer forever just because they can wait a while longer before Emma is destined to break the curse. The couple tearfully say goodbye as Charming drinks the potion, which reverts David back into his comatose state, followed by Snow. After drinking the potion herself, Snow White regains her false memories as Mary Margret Blanchard, and has no memory of what just happened. A confused Mary Margret sits by John Doe as the rest of the town are happy she found the coma patient.

Eighteen years later, she isHenry's (her daughter's son, who was adopted by Mayor Regina Mills) favourite teacher. Noticing he's unhappy, she gives her grandson a book of fairy tales to instill him with hope. She also invites Emma to live with her upon realizing that Emma was thrown out of the bed and breakfast thanks to Regina's attempt to frame her. Mary Margaret volunteers at the hospital and reads Snow White and Prince Charming's tale to the comatose David Nolan, who is really James. He wakes up, and the pair instantly falls in love, despite David's marriage toKathryn. Mary Margaret resigns from the hospital because of the heartache she feels from being around David and tries to start a relationship withDr. Whale. However, she develops stalker-like behavior: she knows David's daily schedule and tries to be where he is. She finally tries to avoid David, but she and David find they cannot stay away from each other and begin a secret relationship. After the affair becomes public and David's marriage breaks down, Mary Margaret is labeled a tramp and becomes an outcast. However, some of the residents reach out to her after she sells candles to help the local nunnery pay its rent. Later, she is arrested for Kathryn's apparent murder after Mary Margaret's fingerprints are found on a box containing a human heart shortly after Kathryn's disappearance. The box is later found to be Mary Margaret's, and the heart is proven to be Kathryn.

Emma believes that Mary Margaret is being framed and asks her to wait and to trust Emma until she can be proven innocent. However, Mary Margaret finds one of Regina's skeleton keys in her cell and uses it to escape. It is later revealed that after her escape, she was captured and held captive byJefferson. She is found by Emma, and the pair is able to escape when Mary Margaret kicks Jefferson out a window. Then Mary Margaret willingly returns to her jail cell to face her trial, but before this happens, Regina visits her and promises to make her life hell, no matter what it takes. Mary Margret tearfully comments that she has no idea what she has done to deserve being treated this way by Regina, but Regina takes this in her stride to make sure her enemy is taken to court and thrown out of Storybrooke forever. When Kathryn reappears, Mary Margaret is released. Consequently, her relationship with David becomes strained since he did not believe she was innocent. He eventually decides to leave Storybrooke when Mary Margaret does not give him a reason to stay, but they are reunited when the curse is broken, and they regain their memories.

After the First Curse[]

With the curse now broken,the two find Emma, only for Mary Margaret to be transported with her back to the remainingEnchanted Forest through a portal after trying to send theWraith back. Emma falls through the portal and Mary Margret jumps in after her, not wanting to be seperated from her daughter again. David tries to do the same but the portal closes. While in the forest, they are found byMulan andPrincess Aurora, who blames Emma and Snow for her prince,Philip's, apparant death. Mary Margret and Emma are thrown into a pit as Mary Margret is knocked out. When she awakens, Mary Margret is reunited with Regina's mother,Cora Mills, who Snow considers far more evil than Regina ever was. Mary Margret and Snow are then rescued and are reunited withLancelot, an old friend of Snow's. With Lancelot's help, Snow and Emma are able to leave and find their way back to Storybrooke, but are insisted on having Mulan take them, who in hand must protect Princess Aurora, as orders by Philip.

With help from Aurora and Mulan, Snow takes Emma back toThe Royal Castle, their family home and have to find a way to activate the magical wardrobe that brought Emma to the land without magic. Lancelot appears to Snow and Emma, but Snow realises that the man in front of them is not actually Lancelot as he mentionsHenry's, Emma's son, name. With this, Mary Margret realises that "Lancelot" is actually Cora, Regina's mother, because she is the only one who Emma told Henry's name to. Cora then tries to use the wardrobe to go to Storybrooke and reunite with her daughter, so Emma destroys their only way home. After Cora disappears, Snow and Emma share a heart-to-heart about her putting her daughter first. As Emma leaves, Snow breaks down in tears over having missed the chance to raise her only daughter in this castle.

Some time later Mary Margret, Emma, Mulan and Aurora are ambushed by Ogers and Mary Margret saves her daughter from being attacked by one. However, Aurora almost kills Mary Margret as she blames her and Emma for herprince's death, and is stopped by Mulan after Snow suggests the princess finds another way to channel her anger. After this, Mary Margret realises thatAurora is having nightmares and helps her deal with them as she has been under a sleeping curse, just like Aurora. Mary Margret and Emma learn that Aurora has been having dreams of a young boy, revealed to be Emma's son, Henry. They learn that she has been seeing him while going into a dangerous, firery room, as part of having been in a sleeping curse. Mary Margret comments that she recongises this room as she has also been in a sleeping curse and has been in that room too. The group use this information to their advantage, in hopes Aurora will be able to communicate with Henry and tellDavid,Regina and the others inStorybrooke, that they are alive and trying to get home.

After realising how dangerous this fiery place is, Mary Margret offers to go under another sleeping curse as Aurora has been affected. While this is happening, Henry is also in danger from going to this location in his sleep, so David offers to take his place and go under a sleeping curse to speak to Aurora. Mary Margret goes under the curse once more and is shocked to see Charming there instead of Henry. They two struggle to communicate because of the fire but Charming tries to get Snow to kiss him, hoping this will awaken him with true loves kiss. However, Mary Margret starts to disappear as she is awakening since the poppy dust only lasts an hour. Snow awakens and Charming is stuck in the curse.

Mary Margret, Emma, Aurora and Mulan suddenly find themselves at a new location and learn that Cora killed lots of residents by tearing their hearts out, only to find someone moving amongst the bodies, who says he is blacksmith. However, Emma doesn't believe him and forces himself to reveal his true identity. When this man reveals himself asKillian Jones, more commonly known as Hook, Mary Margret realises he is Captain Hook. Hook reveals he has been sent by Cora to gain Mary Margret and Emma's trust to learn everything there is to know about Storybrooke. They decide to have Hook guide them after promising to set him free from Cora's wrath. However, Hook decieves them and they are trapped inRumplestiltskin's old cell, but are able to escape and make their way to Lake Nostos. Mary Margret and Emma fight Cora and Hook, and jump through a portal, allowing them to return to Storybrooke. Mary Margret kisses David with true loves kiss and awakens him from the sleeping curse.

After Regina and her motherCora attempt to gain power by killing Mr. Gold, Mary Margaret curses Cora's heart with the same candle that Cora offered her to heal her ailing mother Eva (learning her mother's death was Cora's doing to make Regina queen) and tricks Regina into killing her. She pleads for Regina to kill her when she cannot deal with what she has done, but she instead tearfully taunts her after realizing that her heart is starting to turn dark.

Before the Second Curse[]

When Henry is kidnapped and taken toNeverland, Snow travels with Emma, David, Regina, Mr. Gold, andCaptain Hook to rescue him, but meet the villainousPeter Pan who is the one behind Henry's kidnapping. Pan tells the group that the map is not working because Emma has not embraced who she truly is; a lost girl and the saviour. It isn't until Mary Margret encourages her daughter to say the word, which allows the map to appear and work. Mary Margret and Emma share a moment about Emma feeling like an orphan, but Mary Margret that she wants to change that.

After a week on the island, they meetTinker Bell who offers to help the group find Pan's camp as he keeps moving it as a game to taunt the heroes, although Tinker Bell only agrees to helping them after Mary Margret promises to let her come with them when they leave. Tinker Bell asks about the escape plan, to which Mary Margret comments that this was a last minute trip and they are making the plan up as they go along, which annoys Tink as she decides to leave them to it until they have figured out a way to leave the island.

When theLost Boys ambush the heroes, Mary Margret notices David in pain and he says he is okay, but he has actually been hit byDreamshade which is a deadly poison that once tookLiam Jones, Killian's brother's life. David keeps this as a secret from Mary Margret while Hook is the only one to know about it. While on their way around the island, Emma tells Mary Margret that she kissed Hook, which surprises her mother and is unsure what to do as they are looking for Emma's ex,Neal Cassidy who is revealed to have also arrived in Neverland. When the group reaches a cave, they find Neal in a cage but can only reach him by revealing their darkest secret. For this to work Mary Margret expresses to David that she wants another baby since she and David missed the chance to see Emma grow up. While David loves the idea, he reveals that he was hit by Dreamshade and drank special spring water that while he is healed, he can't ever leave Neverland as he will die, which greatly upsets Mary Margret because David kept it a secret, but promises to stay with him on the island even if it means leaving Emma.

Mary Margret, Emma and Regina are tangled up by one of the trees when Pan approaches them and begins to taunt Emma about giving up Henry. Mary Margret tells him to leave her daughter alone, to which he begins now taunting Mary Margret about giving Emma up and abandoning her for 28 years. When Regina tells Pan to stop talking, he reveals that he is the father ofRumplestiltskin, despite looking a lot younger than him and has him trapped in a box. Mary Margret asks Pan how it is possible that Rumple is his son, to which he comments that he is older than he looks and magic has made him look younger, similarly to how Mary Margret looks the same age as Emma. When Regina rips Henry's heart out of Pan's chest, the three women are able to return to their family and David is given a temporary potion that will for now cure his dreamshade and allow him to travel back to Storybrooke until Rumple can make up the rest of the cure. However, unbeknownst to the family, Pan switched bodies with Henry, while they are able to leave Neverland. The family returns home and Mary Margret is overjoyed that David is fully cured.

The celebrations of the return are short-lived however, as the family learns that Pan switched bodies with Henry when he is let out of Pandora's box. When Henry and Pan return to their own bodies, Pan gains the original dark curse and enacts it which means everyone could die. After both Pan is killed by his son, at the cost of Rumple's life, Regina is able to make Emma and Henry cross the town line and gain new memories, but everyone else will return to theEnchanted Forest. Mary Margret tearfully says goodbye to her daughter once more before Emma and Henry cross the town line.

Back in the Enchanted Forest, Snow learns she is pregnant and while Charming is happy, he is scared about being a father, but confinds in Snow and reveals his fear, but she assures him he will be a wonderful father. Snow and Charming soon learn that Regina's sister,Zelena the wicked witch, is after their baby, but wants to announce it to the people to show them happiness beyond fear. Snow and Charming visitGlinda, the Good Witch and learn that she has history with Zelena. Snow and Charming find out that Zelena was once part of a witch coven, which includedGlinda, the good witch of the south and ask for her help with stopping Zelena's plan. Glinda gives them information on how Zelena changed and what she was like, but doesn't know how to stop her from getting their baby.

Snow and Charming decide to enact another dark curse to bring Emma back to Storybrooke. Charming tells Snow to use his heart and crush it for the curse, but Snow refuses as their baby needs their father. However, Snow gives in and crushes Charming's heart, which kills him. Heartbroken, Snow asks Regina to split her heart in two so she and Charming can share her heart, but Regina is worried that Snow will die if it doesn't work. Snow begs and Regina splits her heart, anyway, which works and revives Charming as the curse takes effect. However, Zelena appears and adds a forgetting potion to the curse so no one will remember the events of the past year. The curse then takes everyone back toStorybrooke.

During the Second Curse[]

Back in Storybrooke, one year after Emma left, Mary Margret and David are reunited with her. Emma tells them thatHook found her in New York and restored her memories, while the couple reveal they are expecting another baby. Mary Margret and David inform Emma and Hook that they have no memories of what happened within the last year, other than seeing Emma and Henry cross the town line. They learn that only Emma has her memories back, but Henry has no idea who his grandparents are, but just thinks he and Emma are here on a case. Mary Margret and David reintroduce themselves to Henry and pretend they used to be cell mates with Emma in prison. Mary Margret spends time with Henry in Granny's, but he has no interest in hearing what her pregnancy book says. While David and Emma try to learn who cursed them, Mary Margret meets a woman namedZelena who says she used to be a midwife back in their land, so Mary Margret hires her for the pregnancy. While Emma and David are out in the woods, for something to help them find out who cursed them, Mary Margret calls David back to the loft so he can meet the midwife, leaving Emma and Hook to continue the search.

Some days later, everyone realises that Zelena is the wicked witch, while Mary Margret has no idea. Emma and David suddenly come barging in and ask where Zelena is, to which Mary Margret tells them she is in the bathroom. David expresses his relief that his wife is okay, to which Mary Margret confirms and asks what is going on. Emma reveals that Zelena is the wicked witch and that Neal is dead. Mary Margret comforts her daughter on the loss of her ex. Emma informs Henry of his father's death and they bury him with the help of the other Storybrooke residents the next day.

After Zelena informs Regina that she doesn't know much about her past, Regina gets the family to perform a seance' to speak toCora beyond the grave. The portal opens, but Cora refuses to speak to Regina, although she is able to escape the portal and haunt the house, without everyone knowing. However, Mary Margret is suddenly possessed by Cora for revenge for killing her, and tells Mary Margret her history. Feeling tired after this, Mary Margret tells everyone that Cora didn't want to give up Zelena, but she was forced to by Snow's mother,Princess Eva, who found out Cora was pregnant with another man's baby despite being engaged toPrince Leopold. With this information, Mary Margaret realizes that Zelena plans on time travelling back to that time and plans to kill Eva, which would mean Snow White would never be born, which would lead Emma and even Henry to have this same fate. Mary Margaret then tells Regina it is possible she wouldn't be born in this new timeline either.

The heroes later confront Zelena at the docks and Regina stopsRumplestiltskin from killing her sister, believing he has become a hero and that heroes don't kill. With the help of Emma, Henry's memories return and reunite with the family. Regina promises to never let Henry go again and kisses him, breaking the curse with a true loves kiss.

After the Second Curse[]

With the curse now brken, everyone regains theirEnchanted Forest memories and reveal to Hook that they never gave him any potion to give to Emma (later revealed to have been Neal). Emma, Mary Margret and David later visit Neal's grave to Henry to say a proper goodbye, but Mary Margret goes into labor. Mary Margret gives birth to a boy, but he is stolen by Zelena, although David returns the baby to Snow and the family reunites as a whole, while Emma decides to go back to New York with Henry.

A few days later, Mary Margret and David planned to reveal their son's name, but Emma would wind up being sucked into Zelena's reopened time rift. Followed by Hook, Snow White's daughter is able to witness the moments leading up to her parents' first meeting. Unfortunately, Emma mistakenly distracts Snow just when she is about to descend upon Princess Abigail's carriage. After checking the book, they find that all the story's inOnce Upon a Time have been erased. Together the two work to reunite her parents. In this new past, Snow appears to be killed by Regina, but she quickly uses the Fairy Dust to turn herself into an insect. Emma is overjoyed to find her mother alive, but Snow understandably doesn't recognize her, breaking her daughter's heart. She and Charming set eyes upon each other once again and finds the two falling in love just like before. Emma and Hook checkOnce Upon a Time and find Snow White's wedding to Prince David in one of the illustrations. Emma returns to Storybrooke and lets her mother know she is there to stay. Mary Margaret lets Emma know that they are naming her brother after Henry's father, her former lover, and Rumplestiltskin's son, Neal, who sacrificed himself to save everyone.

Following Emma and Hook's adventure, they accidentally bring back a deceasedMarian,Robin Hood's wife, which greatly hurts Regina, who decides to quit being the mayor. While Emma tries to make things right with Regina, Mary Margret is elected the new mayor and is tasked with finding out how the town has lost it's power, whileElsa fromArendelle arrives in town looking for her sisterAnna. Mary Margret holds a meeting with the Storybrooke residents to inform them that she and David are helping her and try to convince them that Elsa is not the one who is responsible for the ice wall. However, Marian begins to freeze so Mary Margret stops the meeting and starts to figure out how to reboot the power while Robin, Regina and Henry try to figure out how to save Marian. After learning that Emma has started dating Hook, Mary Margret is worried about Henry as Emma hasn't told him that she has a mew boyfriend, on top ofRegina having started datingRobin Hood. Mary Margret becomes excited for Emma's first date withHook as she never got the chance to dress her daughter up for a ball, so takes this as a chance to snap some pictures of Emma in her dress. Upon Emma's return from her date with Hook, Margret asks her if she went anywhere nice with Killian or if there was a goodnight kiss, although Emma refuses to comment, before Mary Margret comments on how happy her daughter looks, to which David acknowledges that Killian has truly changed since his pirate days.

Mary Margret joins Aurora and Ashley at a mommy and me class, where Snow is said to be a first time mother. She lets Emma baby sit, but notices that she is freezing Neal's bottle, which causes Mary Margret to become fearful of her daughter and refuses to let her look after her little brother. The group later finds out that Emma has a video tape of her time at a foster home and sees that the Snow Queen was with Emma, but she has no memory of this. After Emma confronts thethe Snow Queen in the sheriff station, this makes Emma's magic cause the building to explode as everyone comes over to her. Emma tells them that the damage was from her, not the Snow Queen and she tries to get them all to back away, as her magic is not stable right now. However, when Killian and Elsa try to help her, Emma causes a lamppost to almost fall on him, but David pushes Killian aside and is hit. Mary Margret runs to David's side but lashes out at Emma, scaring her daughter, causing her to run off. Mary Margret tries to get Emma to listen but she drives off and is nowhere to be found all night.

The next morning, Emma calls Mary Margret and explains that she is okay, but plans to get rid of her magic forever, as Mary Margret apologises to Emma. The group, with Elsa's help, manage to stop Emma from getting rid of her magic and help her reunite with her sisterAnna, and her fiance'Kristoff. After Elsa. Kristoff and Anna return toArendelle, Mr. Gold is stopped by Belle from killing Hook, and sent over the town line.

Six weeks later, Mary Margret learn thatCruella De Vil,Maleficent andUrsula the Sea Witch have arrived in town along withRumplestiltskin, who has managed to make his way across the town line. Their arrival in town makes Mary Margret and David fear that their secret regarding Maleficent will be revealed to Emma, but decide to take this chance of keeping it a secret. However, Mary Margret reveals the secret to Regina, fearing that Emma's heart will turn dark if she finds out the truth and that she was originally destined to be born with a heart of darkness.

However, feeling bad about what she and David did, Mary Margret decides to tell Emma that they sacrificed Malefiecent's baby for their own desires, and she becomes very angry with them, ignoring their wishes for forgiveness. However, WhenLily Page is reunited with her mother Maleificent, Lilly transforms into a dragon like her mother, and attacks Mary Margret, who is thrown back onto a rock. Upon seeing that her mother almost died, Emma forgives Mary Margret and David for what they did, as Lilly and Maleificent have been reunited. However, the reconciliation is short as Emma later sacrifices herself to the darkness, to save Regina from this fate, causing Emma to become the newDark One.

Before the Third Curse[]

Immediately after Emma's sacrifice to become the new Dark One, Mary Margret, Henry, David, Robin and Regina try to summon Emma with theDark One's Dagger, although nothing happens. With help from Mr. Gold, they find out Emma has gone toCamelot, so they use a twister, with help from Zelena, to take Granny's to Camelot, to help Emma.

When the group arrives in Camelot, they find Emma withMerida and prevent her from crushing the woman's heart. Emma reveals she is trying to use the magic in Camelot to find a way to remove the darkness from her and destroy it forever. While in Camelot, Nary Margret is reunited withLancelot, who she thought was killed byCora Mills a couple of years ago. He reveals he was able to hide and the family attends a ball, where Regina poses as the Savior as Emma is now the Dark One, and no longer holds the title of Savior.

Later on, Hook is fatally wounded byExcalibur so Emma uses the magic within theDark One's Dagger to save his life, but this means she has given into her darkness and that Hook has also become a new Dark One. With Hook now having given into the darkness once more, he turns on Emma and her family and crushesMerlin's heart to enact another dark curse. With the curse enacted, everyone returns to Storybrooke but their memories are gone.

During the Third Curse[]

When everyone returns to Storybrooke, they have no memories of what happened in the past 6 weeks. Emma is still the dark one, but does want to try and get rid of the darkness. Mary Margret and David support Emma, but helpKing Arthur asks for her and David's help in finding his holy grail, which is believed to have come over with the curse from Camelot.

Emma later restores everyone's memories of the past 6 weeks, which unfortunately causes Hook to give into the darkness once more and he embraces his role as the Dark One, while Emma and her family try to find a way to stop him. However, Hook takes things too far as the Dark One, and plans on sending Emma's family to theUnderworld, in exchange for resurrecting the previousDark Ones.

With the Dark Ones coming to Storybrooke, Hook gets them to surround Emma's family, ready to take them to the underworld, but he soon decides to have a change of heart and absorbs all the darkness, asking Emma to kill him so he can take the darkness to the underworld. Emma is hesitant to let the man she loves die, but eventually gives in and kills Hook with Excalibur, saving everyone in town.

After the Third Curse[]

With Hook dead, Mary Margret consoles a heartbroken Emma on the loss of her boyfriend, as his soul travels to theunderworld. After Emma learnsRumplestiltskin is the dark one once more, she tells her family that she plans to go to the underworld herself to retrieve Hook, believing his death to be unfair since Gold regained his power and the darkness is not actually gone. Mary Margret, David, Regina, Gold, Henry and Robin decide to join Emma on her quest to save Hook, and they travel to the underworld.

When the group arrives in the Underworld, Snow seesPrince James, David's twin brother, who kisses her when she mistakes him for David. As James leaves, Mary Margret is left feeling uncomfortable but brushes it off when David and Emma arrive. Shortly afterwards, Regina asks Mary Margret to help her findDaniel's grave after getting information fromCruella on how the gravestones work in this realm. Mary Margret finds Daniel's grave and she and Regina learn that he has moved on from the underworld and is in a happier place. Snow leaves Regina so she can have a private, final goodbye to her former love. Finding the grave encourages Snow to come up with the idea to help the residents of the underworld complete their unfinished business and move on.

While looking at all the gravestones, Mary Margret learns that her old friendHercules is here which means he has unfinished business, which makes David slightly jealous as Snow had a previous romance with the demigod. Mary Margret decides to help Hercules as she thinks he can help the group find Killian. After getting help from theBlind Witch, Snow finds Hercules by the docs. Hercules recongises Snow and they embrace, as she realises he is still so young. She asks him how he died, but he refuses to tell her, believing it does not matter. Snow asks Hercules to help her find her daughter's boyfriend, informing him that Killian is being kept in a dungeon that is guarded byCerberus and Hercules agrees. After regrouping with Emma, Regina and David in the tunnels, Mary Margret and Hercules are about to face Cerberus when he is called off byHades, who reveals that Cerberus was the one who killed Hercules, which saddens Snow as Hercules didn't want to tell her and let her down.

Back at the docs, Mary Margret tries to encourage Hercules to try again, but he refuses at first becauseCerberus is too dangerous as he has three heads and tells her that every time he tried to go for one of them, the other heads would attack. Mary Margret then gets the idea to help Hercules defeat Cerberus as she became the hero he always knew she would become. Later that day, Mary Margret and Hercules are about to fight Cerberus when they findMegara hiding from the creature. With her help, Mary Margret and Hercules are able to destroy the beast once and for all, completing Hercules' twelth labor. After seeing Hercules and Megara become closer, Mary Margret decides to go back to being namedSnow White, as she enjoyed her adventurous side of life. Hercules and Megara are soon able to move from the Underworld toMount Olympus, and he and Snow share a tearful goodbye as he departs onwards, as Snow cries seeing her former love interest go into the light.

Snow White's actions later result inHades picking her as one of three souls he wants to keep behind. Following this, she discovers that she no longer wants to be known as Mary Margaret and returns to being Snow White. She and David later learn that his brotherJames is in the Underworld, bitter about the way his brother got all the glory that he could have had if he didn't die. Later, Snow and David find a way to contact their son, Neal from the Underworld, only to haveCruella De Vil and her henchman Claude tear out the phones after they succeed. As a sacrifice to keep one soul in the Underworld, David trades places with Snow and Snow returns to Storybrooke. Before arriving back home, Snow witnessed her friend Red's awakingDorothy Gale with true love's kiss.

Before the Fourth Curse[]

Following the defeat of Hades at the hands of Zelena, Snow was transported, along with David, Zelena, and Hook, to the Land of Untold Stories, led by the sinister Mr. Hyde. Fortunately, with the assistance of Dr. Jekyll, the heroes escaped. Then with further help from their family in New York City, Snow, David, Zelena, and Hook were safely returned to the Land Without Magic, accompanied by Jekyll (who had now separated himself from Hyde). Upon her return, Snow was witness to Regina's using Jekyll's serum to separate herself from theEvil Queen, as well as her subsequent attempt to destroy her.

After the people from the Land of Untold Stories arrive in town, Snow and her family stop Hyde and decide to help these new people with finding their happy endings but find themselves in repeating battles as the Evil Queen arrives and has Regina kill the Count of Monte Cristo. Afterwards when they are trying to figure out why the Evil Queen survived, Regina crushing her and find a way to destroy her, Snow wishes to become a teacher again and for things to return to normal which they start to do, but this is short-lived when the Evil Queen threatens Storybrooke with water from the River of Lost Souls unless Snow and David give up their shared heart which they do. But the Evil Queen decides to give them her pain of loneliness, so she places a sleeping curse on their shared heart so when one is awake, the other will be asleep, meaning Snow and David cannot be together. As they try to continue life without each other, Snow starts to lose hope as she cannot stand being without David.

As Regina works feverishly to wake Snow and Charming from the Sleeping Curse, Gold comes face to face with theBlack Fairy, the powerful enemy Emma must fight in the Final Battle. Hook, still in Neverland, meets up withTiger Lily, who gives him a piece of an ancient fairy wand to give Emma, to aid her in defeating the Black Fairy. Gold learns that the Black Fairy had been manipulatingGideon with his heart, and confronts her about it, with her saying that if they should fight, Storybrooke would be destroyed. In 1993, a pixie flower awakens Snow and Charming from their cursed selves, but an awakened Rumplestiltskin tells them they must make a difficult decision, to ensure that Emma fulfills her destiny as the Savior. In the present, a Pixie flower allows Emma to open a doorway to Neverland and rescue Hook, who re-proposes. Snow and David are then freed from their curse when the residents of Storybrooke share the curse.

Following the engagement, Snow becomes very excited about planning Emma and Hook's wedding. Snow and David have a disagreement about where the wedding reception should take place, even David referencing Snow's one night stand withDr. Whale, much to Snow's annoyance. However, Emma and Hook soon find a place for their marriage and the wedding commences with Snow and David walking their daughter down the isle just as theBlack Fairy's curse takes place.

During the Fourth Curse[]

Snow and the heroes all return to theEnchanted Forest once more, where they have to find a way to get Emma to believe in fairytales once more due to being affected by the curse. As Emma is failing to believe, the worlds are disappearing until she manages to remember and the Black Fairy is killed. With her memories restored, Emma returns to Snow, Charming and her new husband,Killian, as she must face Gideon for the final battle. Snow, David, Hook and Henry watch as Emma fights Gideon and is killed, much to everyone's shock, but she is revived by Henry's kiss of true love.

After the Fifth and Sixth Curse[]

Following the final battle, everyone lives in peace for years and Snow and Charming move to their farm, where they live for years. Snow and David later return to the queen's castle to help everyone and gain a granddaughter named Hope, through Emma and Hook, who arrive as Snow and Charming decide to crown Regina the Good Queen and the ruler of theUnited Realms, bringing all of the worlds across the Enchanted Forest together, so everyone can live together at peace.

• Snow's Storybrooke name Mary Margret comes from when Red gave her the name Mary and Margret, shown in "Red-Handed".
• Snow and David's portrayers,Ginnifer Goodwin andJosh Dallas, are married in real life. They met on the show and married during production of the series.
• According to "The Queen Is Dead", Snow got her name because she was born in the harshest winter in history.
