The franchise has expanded to include a sequel film,Frozen II (2019), which explores the origin of Elsa's powers and the history of their family. The sequel also introduces new characters, such as theNorthuldra people, who live in an enchanted forest, andBruni, a salamander-like spirit of fire. The franchise also features several short films, such asFrozen Fever (2015), which depicts Anna's birthday celebration,Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017), which followsOlaf the snowman as he searches for holiday traditions,Once Upon a Snowman (2020), which reveals Olaf's backstory, andMyth: A Frozen Tale (2019), which showcases the elemental spirits of nature. The franchise has been a critical and commercial success, earning over $2.7 billion at the global box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing animated franchises of all time.
The films have received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the animation, music, voice acting, characters, and themes. The franchise has also won several awards, including two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. OnFebruary 8,2023,Bob Iger announced that a thirdFrozen film is being developed.[1] OnFebruary 7,2024, during the Q1 earnings call, Bob Iger confirmed that the film would be released onNovember 25,2026.[2] By August 9, it was delayed toNovember 24,2027.

Frozen Fever (2015)[]

Frozen Fever is a short sequel released in early2015.John Lasseter, the head ofWalt Disney Animation Studios, teased it during the documentary filmThe Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck returned as directors and Peter Del Vecho and Aimee Scribner as producers of the short, featuring a new song called "Making Today a Perfect Day" written by Robert Lopez and Kristian Anderson-Lopez. The short involves Elsa and Kristoff throwing a birthday party for Anna, but the party is put at risk by Elsa's icy powers. Frozen Fever debuted in theaters withDisney'sCinderella onMarch 13, 2015. Released as part of theWalt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection onAugust 18, 2015, it was also included on the DVD, Blu-ray, and digital HD releases ofCinderella onSeptember 15, 2015.
Myth: A Frozen Tale (2019)[]

Myth: A Frozen Tale is a virtual reality short directed by Jeff Gipson, first debuted alongsideFrozen II. Evan Rachel Wood portrays an Arendelle mother narrating a story of the four elementals. The VR short was released for the Oculus Quest onJune 11,2020, while a "flat" version was released onDisney+ onFebruary 26,2021.
Once Upon a Snowman (2020)[]

The short filmOnce Upon a Snowman was released exclusively on Disney+ onOctober 23,2020, featuring the voice of Josh Gad as Olaf. The short details Olaf's origin from the moment he was created by Elsa during the song "Let It Go", to his first meeting with Anna, Kristoff and Sven in the original film.

AFrozen holiday specialOlaf's Frozen Adventure premiered in2017. It is directed by Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton and produced by Roy Conli. Teased during the airing of the documentary filmThe Making of Frozen: Return to Arendelle, the 21-minute special received a limited-time theatrical release. It premiered in theaters withPixar'sCoco onNovember 22, 2017, and made its television debut onABC onDecember 14 the same year. The DVD/Blu-ray for the short film was released in theUnited States andCanada onNovember 13,2018.
