Disneyland Explorer

Disneyland Explorer was an application that allowed the user to explore theDisneyland Resort. The app consisted of guides across the Disneyland Resort fromDisneyland,Disney California Adventure,Downtown Disney, and hotels at the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland Hotel,Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel, andDisney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa).

The app was updated onJuly 27,2012 to update the app to add the recently-builtCars Land area at California Adventure in the app as part of the new themed land's opening at California Adventure^[1].

The app was initially released exclusively for iPad users but as ofDecember 13,2012, the app was made available for iPhone and iPod Touch users^[2].

The app was removed from the App Store likely around2016 or2017 with the app's final version being Version 3.2.

Overview[]

In the app, the user was able to explore the Disneyland Resort on their device viewing attractions and other points of interest found at the Disneyland Resort. Besides viewing the attractions and points of interest, users were also able to add attractions to their favorites in the favorite section which can be done so by tapping the red heart on the info bubble of the attractions the user is exploring to mark the attractions as their favorite. Besides exploring the attractions, users are also able to play mini-games inspired by the attraction and watch the footage for viewers to take a sneak peek of what the attractions are like before enjoying on the actual attractions in the actual parks themselves so users could get an experience of observing what it is like when watching the sneak peek of the attractions before trying them.

Mini-games[]

Aside from exploring the parks and adding attractions to their favorites list, the user is also able to find interactive mini-games inspired by the park by exploring across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

Disneyland Park[]

• It's a Small World – This mini-game can be found in theFantasyland section of the app by tapping theGlockenspiel icon where the user must turn the gears to play the titular song, "It's a Small World". Upon doing so, variousdolls from the attraction appear in which the user can tap on them to hear the song sung by the dolls in their native language. The music suddenly stops if the user does not interact with the gears for a while, causing the dolls to stop moving.
• Matterhorn Bobsleds – This mini-game can be found in the Fantasyland section upon tapping theMatterhorn Bobsleds icon where the user must use binoculars in order to find and take a picture of the elusiveAbominable Snowman all across the Matterhorn.
• Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – This mini-game can be found in theFrontierland section of the park by tapping the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad icon where the user must tilt their device for the train to move. The user can also seeMickey and his friends on board the train while tilting the device.
• Pirates of the Caribbean – This mini-game can be found in theNew Orleans Square section of the park by tapping theskeleton pirate on a pile of treasure icon. In it, the user controls a cannon to shoot cannonballs at enemy ships before they exit the screen. The song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" plays in the background during the mini-game.
• The Haunted Mansion - This mini-game can be found in the New Orleans Square section upon tapping the icon of the Haunted Mansion where the user must play the piano keys on the pipe organ in order to play the attraction's theme song, "Grim Grinning Ghosts". Upon playing the correct tune, clips from the Haunted Mansion attraction appear. Should the user hit the wrong key, the user will need to start again. Alternatively, the user can also choose to play his/her own tune if they prefer not to play "Grim Grinning Ghosts".
• Splash Mountain - This mini-game can be found in theCritter Country section upon tapping either theSwamp Boys or the Splash Mountain icon where the player must spray water at the logs to get the beehives out of them to keep bees away from pestering the Briar Patch.
• Mickey's House and Meet Mickey – This mini-game can be found in theMickey's Toontown section, upon tapping Mickey House where viewers can watch classicMickey Mouse cartoons. Aside from watching cartoons, the user can curiously explore what is inside Mickey's house.
• Star Tours: The Adventures Continue - This mini-game can be found in theTomorrowland upon tapping theStar Tours icon where the user controls theStarSpeeder 1000 to travel across the planets from theStar Wars franchise fromHoth toKashyyyk to theDeath Star andNaboo. Upon approaching each planet, the user will receive a postcard greeting from other planets he/she passes through (for example, should the player pass by the Hoth planet, he/she will receive a "Greetings from Hoth" postcard).
• Fireworks at Disneyland Park - This mini-game can be found at the Fireworks at Disneyland Park section (represented by theSleeping Beauty Castle at nighttime) where the user can tap parts of the screen to start his/her own fireworks show to bring in the fireworks.

Disney's California Adventure[]

• The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure - This mini-game can be found at theParadise Pier (nowPixar Pier andParadise Gardens Park as of2018) upon tapping the icon ofAriel andPrince Eric during the "Kiss the Girl" sequence where the player can tap onAriel,Sebastian, and their underwater friends to create their own music.
• Mater's Junkyard Jamboree - This mini-game can be found at theCars Land section upon tapping either the Mater's Junkyard Jamboree icon or tapping onMater himself. In it, the user can watch short clips from theCars Toons short film series while exploring Mater's Garage showing the archives of Mater's past adventures.
• Luigi's Flying Tires - This mini-game can be found at the Cars Land section of the app upon tapping on either theLuigi's Casa Della Tires icon or tapping onLuigi himself where the user must launch tires on the target to earn points. Points depend on what spot of the target the tire lands on.
• Soarin' Over California - This mini-game can be found at theCondor Flats area of the app by tapping either the hang glider or the Soarin' Over California signage where the user assumes the role of a hang glider to glide past various Californian landmarks fromAnza-Borrego toMalibu, and fromYosemite toSan Francisco. Upon approaching each landmark, the user will receive a postcard greeting from other Californian cities he/she passes through (for example, should the player pass by the Golden Gate Bridge icon, he/she will receive a "Greetings from San Francisco" postcard).
• Animation Academy - This mini-game can be found at theHollywood Land area of the app where the user can learn how to draw Disney characters such asMickey,Minnie,Donald, andGoofy like what a Disney animator/artist does.
• The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - This mini-game can be found in the Hollywood Land area of the app where the player can tap on the elevator numbers to find their destination but can never tell which floor they will arrive at. Along the way, the player will arrive at different rooms where texts containing information of the backstory of the Tower of Terror attraction are displayed and after reaching the twelfth floor, the elevator will arrive back at the basement area in reference to the elevator ride going up and down throughout the attraction.
• World of Color - This mini-game can be found at the World of Color area of the app at the California Adventure section (represented by theMickey's Fun Wheel attraction). In it, the players can drag clips to make their own show by dragging clips to the tray at the bottom of the screen and upon doing so, players can also tap the fountains to make them dance while clips play in the background.
