Welcome todisney_pocs, an inclusive community dedicated to the appreciation and general discussion of characters of color in Walt Disney’s animated features, television shows and other multimedia. Despite the graphics, the discussion and use of the community is not restricted nor ends with the “The Disney Princess ™” Brand created by company; this community also includes male, minor and villain characters of color under the Disney (or Pixar) brand. The use of the community also encourages the discussion of the problematic racial elements which continue the company in regards to the representation or mishandling of POC characters (male or female) and cultures (Black or otherwise), acting as a 'safe space' for topics that would otherwise be derailed by dismissive commentary or the tried and true "I don't see race" argument (and other unfortunate privileged things). The community is also open to their creators, writers or publishers behind the creator of said characters and the titles they appear in. If you want to share your creations (fanfiction, meta, gen. discussion, fanart, mixes, etc.), feel free to do so.

GUIDELINES:
oo Why does this community exist? Well if you need more of a reason that's provided here, justclick this and read.

o1 → First off, this community is dedicated to the characters of color in the Disney canon. In other words, while this is a pro-POC community, it is not anti-white. However, if you don't like certain characters or films, please do not create bashing threads, simply keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Play nice or not at all. Please note that bashing of other characters or is not allowed either.

o2 → Secondly,racist and sexist remarks are not allowed within the community. Discriminating against any character for either gender or race is not welcome within the community.

o3 → Please keep images under 200x200 to 400x400 pixels. Lengthy posts and fanfiction must be placed behind a Live Journal cut. Don't know how to make a LiveJournal Cut?Click Here to find out how.

o4 →WHITEWASHINGfanworks are not permitted here in the community. Educate yourself on the issue (visit Racebending.com, stopwhitewashing.tumblr.com, korraisnottan.tumblr.com and damnlayoffthebleach.tumblr.com), avoid it at all costs. There is no middle ground, there is no "I didn't intend to whitewash, I just prefer [insert character here] have lighter skin than canonically depicted". DON'T DO IT.

o5 → No more than 3 icons can be shown outside a livejournal cut. No more no less.

o6 → Absolutely NO HOTLINKING images. If you have images you wish to upload, please use your Scrapbook or Image hosting websites (Photobucket.com, Imageshack.us, tinypic.com, etc). Do not use the Bandwidth from another or our website, its what people call "Bandwidth Stealing".

o7 → When Posting News and other material you did not create, remember to link to the "SOURCE" you found it at. It’s only right.

o8 → Keep Things like Fanmixes, screencaps or scans available to view for "Members" only. Do not leave them public.

o9 → Feel Free to post whatever you want in Your journal or Your graphic/fanfiction journal, But, PLEASE make it PUBLIC, DO NOT make our members Join your community.

10 → Also: No community promotion is allowed.

11 → To avoid spammers, flamers and trolls, to become a member you must have an active/established account that you post on a semi-regular basis. If you've been rejected then it is because of the following:
+ There are zero to no entries on your personal journal (outside of the "Weclome to LiveJournal!" Message) since its inception.
+ You have no associates (friends) nor are you a member of any communities.
+ Your journal is new and not established.

WHAT'S ALLOWED
Fanfiction - Gen, het, slash and femmeslash are all welcome, as are works inspired by the Disney animated features themselves (i.e., movies, animated series, or whatever else comic book related licenses, produces, etc). Please give proper classification if any fan works may include elements that some may consider offensive, but do so in a polite and non-aggressive/sarcastic manner. Use your best judgment. If someone asks you to put something behind a cut and add a trigger warning due to content, please do as they requested. Different things are triggering for different people. If you don't understand the concept of a trigger warning,read this.
Graphics/Fanart - By way of wallpaper, icons, tumblr graphics, .gifs, or banners are perfectly allowed within the community. Fanart previews mustn't be over 100x100 or 400x00 pixels and should not go over the G through PG-13 rating.
Discussion/Meta - Is completely welcome, be it a rant, an epic essay or a simple question (so long as none of it hasn't already to been posted, in regards to the latter, anyhow). However, please remember to label essays or rants with appropriate "trigger warnings" so as not to end on the wrong end of someone's offense.
Multimedia - Fanmixes, fanvideos, videos or downloads are allowed, but please remember to restrict them to "members only".DO NOT LEAVE THEM PUBLIC.
Images - Images over 100x100 - 400x400 pixels should be placed behind a cut. Don't know how to make one?
Comunity Promotion - though we stated above it's not allowed, we may make exceptions for things such as charities, auctions or POC-related blog. Please remember to ask @ the "affiliation" post (see TAG: 'affiliates') to get an okay. Also remember that the promotion of a community must pertain to the subject matter of the community. Promotion of contests by way of "darkagenda" or "landofart" are welcome, so long as they pertain to a character of color in some capacity. Failure to follow this rule will result in the privilege of promoting being revoked and the post rejected.

WHAT'S NOT ALLOWED
Character Bashing - No one's in the wrong for disliking a character, its not required that you like or even love them all. However, many of have been in the wrong about how they happen to express their dislike for characters that bug them. And it goes without saying, character bashing is not allowed here. It's all fine and well not to like a character and express that, however, flamming, shamming and being plain disrespectful about one or more them is not.
User Bashing/Flame Wars - It's not welcome here. Be polite to your fellow members. There may be difference of opinions, but please, no personal attacks or name calling. This is a light-hearted fan community, let's not make it a negative experience. Agree to disagree if it comes to it. If you continue to be a problem in this community, you'll be banned from posting.
Racism, Sexism/Misogyny/Homophobia - Goes without saying that descrimination against characters for their gender, sexual preference or ethinicity/race is unwelcome within the community. If there is a problem of this nature occuring, please contact the mod(s) immediately.
Pirating - And by this I mean offering links to download anything that isn't within the grounds of public domain or fair use. If do wish to pay for whatever merchandise Disney has to offer, that is in major circulation or available with the simple purchase (or Ebay, if you're that desperate), then please do the mods and industry a favor and shell out a couple bucks for the desired item. You'll be doing this community a huge favor as it'll help us avoid getting hit with copyright violations.
Hotlinking - Absolutely NO HOTLINKING images. If you have images you wish to upload, please use your Scrapbook or Image hosting websites (Photobucket.com, Imageshack.us, tinypic.com, imagebam etc, imgur.com). Do not use the Bandwidth from another website, its what people call "Bandwidth Stealing" and its not nice.
Fanfiction - Containing underage/jailbait, child pornography is not allowed on the community. Fanfiction not using the required header and descriptions will be deleted.
Real Person Fandom - Please note that this community does not support nor allow Real Person Fandom. It is not respectful to those involved with this series and offenders will be banned from the community.
Fanart/Graphics - over the PG-13 rating, not under a cut and labeled with the proper trigger warnings, will be deleted.
Warnings - Warn for non-canon character death, and other sensitive subjects.
Spoiler Policy - SPOILERS are fun! But put them behind an cut so as not to spoil those who haven't been keeping up with the latest news (that and avoid the previous posts).
Posts not using Tags - USE THE TAGS. I cannot stress this enough. They were created for the sole purpose of keeping things here at the community in order and easier to find and to reduce the hours spent browsing through the calendar section. It's not a complicated request to adhere to in the least and it will be much appreciated by the maintainers.
Language - Swearing is allowed, but please keep it mild (i.e, don't turn your post into a literal F-Bomb post). Bigoted language, however, will not be tolerated, so don't use it. Contact a mod if people are using language which you find problematic, and we will work to address the issue.
