RPostgreSQL provides an interface betweenGNU R and thePostgreSQL database system. RPostgreSQL uses the standardDBI interface which is also used by the similar packages ROracle, RMySQL and RSQLite.

RPostgreSQL was initially written by Sameer Kumar Prayaga during the summer of 2008 as part of the Google Summer of Code 2008 program. Dirk Eddelbuettel had suggested the topic, and acted as mentor and release coordinator.
RPostgreSQL was being maintained and extended by Joe Conway, Dirk Eddelbuettel, Tomoaki Nishiyama and Neil Tiffin.
Since release 0.2-0, Tomoaki Nishiyama is the lead maintainer.
