Flashing Circles

Executed Crazy Combo.

ACrazy Combo is a special type of combo inDevil May Cry 3 that replaces the end of a standard combo, typically with an extendable attack.

Gameplay[]

Crazy Combos are activated by rapidly pressing the correct attack button during certain combos. If performed, a set of white circles flash aroundDante, and then he performs high speed attacks with his weapon instead of the normal finisher for the starting combo. Crazy Combos are so named because Dante inDevil May Cry 3 will sometimes shout"Crazy!" after executing a Crazy Combo.

Named Crazy Combos[]

Rebellion[]

  • Million Stab - Dante creates a sword whirlwind with countless stabs, puncturing everything in the way and finishing with a deep blade thrust.
  • Crazy Dance - Dante sticks Rebellion into the ground, grabs onto the blade in a manner to his pole dance move in the nightclub while rapidly spin-kicking, finishing the attack by pulling out the sword and slashing everything in a broad arc.

Cerberus[]

  • Satellite - Dante spins the nunchucks around his body, attacking enemies ahead and behind three times.
  • Million Carats - Dante unleashes the full power of Cerberus, surrounding himself with massive ice shards, inflicting severe damage on nearby enemies.

Agni & Rudra[]

  • Million Slash - Dante creates a flurry of fiery slashes, burning demons in a 180-degree arc and finishing it with a downward crush.
  • Tempest - Dante jumps and creates a flaming vortex by twirling the swords, melting anything underneath.

Nevan[]

  • Jam Session - Dante summons a hurricane of bats and a lighting storm around himself, dissolving enemies in the commotion.
  • Crazy Roll - Nevan begins to circle around Dante, slashing and zapping everything around. Ends with a shocking blast.

Beowulf[]

  • Hyper Fist - Dante charges up all strength in his hands and unleashes it in a barrage of light punches, ending it with a destructive strike.
  • Tornado - Dante generates a crazy storm by spinning his body, ripping enemies to shreds.

Ebony & Ivory[]

  • Wild Stomp - while shooting a grounded enemy, Dante steps on the demon, honeycombs it and violently kicks it away.

Shotgun[]

  • Point Blank - while finishing theGun Stinger, Dante fires multiple Charged buckshots to finish the enemy off.

Artemis[]

  • Acid Rain - Dante sends out energy from the cannon into the sky with it returning in a form of showering needles, piercing enemies through.

Spiral[]

  • Reflector - as the bullet meets the enemy, it begins to bounce back and forth, perforating the enemy in the process.

Notes[]

  • Satellite, Million Carats and Reflector are the only Crazy Combos which do not require repeated presses to prolong the attack.
  • Million Stab is the only Crazy Combo that can be performed from two different attacks as it can be executed from Rebellion Combo II andStinger, additionally it is the only technique from this group that originated from preceding games and is present in succeeding games.
  • Some Crazy Combos, such as Million Stab, Crazy Dance, Million Slash, Hyper Fist and Wild Stomp have a special property: they keep the enemy alive with a "magic pixel" of health until their final attack. This means when executing, for example, the Million Stab on enemy and the attack is canceled, the demon will survive and the Million Stab could potentially be repeated. This trait is not restricted to Crazy Combos (Dance Macabre also works this way), but it a common feature of them.
  • Rapid Shot of Ebony & Ivory and Shotgun actually isn't a Crazy Combo, but the way to use it is similar (pressing the button repeatably).
  • Kalina Ann is the only weapon which doesn't have a Crazy Combo in Devil May Cry 3.

Trivia[]

  • During the second battle with Vergil when he slams Beowulf into the ground, Vergil is surrounded in a flash of white circles clearly resembling the ones that surround Dante when he triggers a Crazy Combo.
  • In Dante's moveset fromMarvel vs. Capcom 3, a number of his attacks that weren't originally Crazy Combos had that graphic added onto them, likely as an indicator for followup extensions even if they were not part of a rekka/followup-input. On the opposite end, certain Crazy Combos lost the graphic upon their transition.
    • The moves that gained the special effect were:
      • Scat(ter) Shot (acting as a followup input to his standing heavy attack, being a variant of Dante's basic Ebony & Ivory shots)
      • Clay Pigeon (followup input to his standing S, High Time, and based on shooting airborne/launched enemies)
      • Weasel Shot (another standing H followup input; original gun shot move based on jumping-back-and-shooting)
      • Cold Shower (standalone command normal being downward gun shots loosely based on Wild Stomp)
      • Rain Storm (followup input to his jumping heavy attack)
      • Prop Shredder (followup input to either Scat Shot or Clay Pigeon, and without its Shredder followup)
      • Drive (unique in that it's a standalone special move; standalone input move with Crazy Combo rune flash akin to Cold Shower)
      • Grapple (followup input to Hysteria; despite again, Kalina Ann originally not having any Crazy Combos)
      • Beowulf Combo B, renamed as Beehive (as a followup input to Volcano, which never had any followup inputs possible originally)
      • Fireworks (followup input to Revolver, Reverb Shock and Jet Stream)
      • Crazy Dance (as a followup input to Revolver, Reverb Shock and Jet Stream; only via the Dance Macabre portion as the original starting sequence to Dance Macabre did not have the flashing rune effect)
      • The Hammer (followup input to Killer Bee; most dive kicks outside of exploits like Jump Cancelling are not normally cancel-able upon contact in the originalDMC games)
    • On the opposite end, Crazy Combos that lost their flashing effect were:
      • Million Stab (only done as Dante's crouching heavy attack)
      • Crazy Dance (being the actual pole-dance-kicking move; starting sequence of Dance Macabre-esque slashes gained the effect while Crazy Dance itself lost it)
      • Jam Session (standalone special move; unlike Cold Shower and Drive does not retain the rune flash)
    • In his moveset inMarvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the Crazy Combo graphic became less pronounced, and had changed across moves.
      • Moves that gained the effect:
        • Air Trick (only when done as a followup input to Stinger; still retains its standalone version where no rune flash is present)
        • Volcano (same case as Air Trick; only as a followup input to Stinger but also has a rune-less standalone input special move version)
        • Drive (turned into solely a followup input to Stinger)
        • Revolver (turned into one of Crystal's followup inputs)
        • Twister (as a followup input to Jet Stream; Tempest retains the rune flash and Dante for the Twister-to-Tempest combo recites both of Agni & Rudra's lines)
      • Moves that lost the effect:
        • Clay Pigeon (made into a standalone command normal; characters back in theDMC games could never shoot upwards on their own without locking-onto a target)
        • Beehive (still acts as a followup input to either version of Volcano)
        • Rain Storm (turned into a standalone midair command normal)
        • Scat(ter) Shot (turned into standalone special move; can move back and forth during shots via Run 'n' Gun; Prop Shredder becomes a followup input to it while still retaining its rune flash)
        • Acid Rain (turned into a standalone input special move)
        • The Hammer (turned into a midair standalone input special move)
