Transit Layer

  • This example demonstrates how to display the public transit network of London using the Google Maps JavaScript API.

  • It uses theTransitLayer class to overlay transit data onto a basic map centered on London.

  • The code provides implementations in both TypeScript and JavaScript, with the JavaScript version being compiled from TypeScript.

  • The sample includes HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript code to create a fully functional web page displaying the map.

  • Users can interact with the sample via provided links to JSFiddle, Google Cloud Shell, or by cloning and running the code locally.

This example creates a map that displays the public transit network of London,UK.

Read thedocumentation.

TypeScript

functioninitMap():void{constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map")asHTMLElement,{zoom:13,center:{lat:51.501904,lng:-0.115871},});consttransitLayer=newgoogle.maps.TransitLayer();transitLayer.setMap(map);}declareglobal{interfaceWindow{initMap:()=>void;}}window.initMap=initMap;
Note: Read theguide on using TypeScript and Google Maps.

JavaScript

functioninitMap(){constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"),{zoom:13,center:{lat:51.501904,lng:-0.115871},});consttransitLayer=newgoogle.maps.TransitLayer();transitLayer.setMap(map);}window.initMap=initMap;
Note: The JavaScript is compiled from the TypeScript snippet.

CSS

/* * Always set the map height explicitly to define the size of the div element * that contains the map. */#map{height:100%;}/* * Optional: Makes the sample page fill the window. */html,body{height:100%;margin:0;padding:0;}

HTML

<html>  <head>    <title>Transit Layer</title>    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./style.css" />    <script type="module" src="./index.js"></script>  </head>  <body>    <div></div>    <!--       The `defer` attribute causes the script to execute after the full HTML      document has been parsed. For non-blocking uses, avoiding race conditions,      and consistent behavior across browsers, consider loading using Promises. See      https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/load-maps-js-api      for more information.      -->    <script      src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=AIzaSyB41DRUbKWJHPxaFjMAwdrzWzbVKartNGg&callback=initMap&v=weekly"      defer    ></script>  </body></html>
