Region Code Biasing (US)

  • This sample demonstrates how to send a geocoding request for "Toledo" and receive a US-based result using the Google Maps JavaScript API.

  • The returned geocoding result can vary depending on the specified map region.

  • Sample code is provided in both TypeScript and JavaScript, along with HTML and CSS for displaying the results on a map.

  • Users can try the sample using JSFiddle or Google Cloud Shell, or clone the repository and run it locally with Node.js.

This demonstrates sending a geocoding request for "Toledo" and receiving aresult in the US. The result returned depends on the region of the map. See alsothedemo for the ES region.

Read thedocumentation.

TypeScript

functioninitMap():void{constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map")asHTMLElement,{zoom:8,});constgeocoder=newgoogle.maps.Geocoder();geocoder.geocode({address:"Toledo"}).then((response)=>{constposition=response.results[0].geometry.location;map.setCenter(position);newgoogle.maps.Marker({map,position,});}).catch((e)=>window.alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: "+e));}declareglobal{interfaceWindow{initMap:()=>void;}}window.initMap=initMap;
Note: Read theguide on using TypeScript and Google Maps.

JavaScript

functioninitMap(){constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"),{zoom:8,});constgeocoder=newgoogle.maps.Geocoder();geocoder.geocode({address:"Toledo"}).then((response)=>{constposition=response.results[0].geometry.location;map.setCenter(position);newgoogle.maps.Marker({map,position,});}).catch((e)=>window.alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: "+e),);}window.initMap=initMap;
Note: The JavaScript is compiled from the TypeScript snippet.

CSS

/* * Always set the map height explicitly to define the size of the div element * that contains the map. */#map{height:100%;}/* * Optional: Makes the sample page fill the window. */html,body{height:100%;margin:0;padding:0;}

HTML

<html>  <head>    <title>Geocoding Region - US</title>    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./style.css" />    <script type="module" src="./index.js"></script>  </head>  <body>    <div></div>    <!--       The `defer` attribute causes the script to execute after the full HTML      document has been parsed. For non-blocking uses, avoiding race conditions,      and consistent behavior across browsers, consider loading using Promises. See      https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/load-maps-js-api      for more information.      -->    <script      src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=AIzaSyB41DRUbKWJHPxaFjMAwdrzWzbVKartNGg&callback=initMap&v=weekly&region=US"      defer    ></script>  </body></html>
