Simple Click Events

  • This example showcases the implementation of event listeners in Google Maps using JavaScript or TypeScript.

  • Clicking the marker on the map triggers a zoom-in and centers the map on the marker's location.

  • The map automatically pans back to the marker's position 3 seconds after the center of the map is changed.

  • Code samples in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS are provided, alongside links to documentation and live demos.

This example demonstrates the use of event listeners. It

  • listens for theclick event on a marker to zoom the map when the marker is clicked.
  • listens for thecenter_changed event to pan the map back to the marker after 3 seconds.

TypeScript

asyncfunctioninitMap(){// Request needed libraries.const{Map}=awaitgoogle.maps.importLibrary("maps")asgoogle.maps.MapsLibrary;const{AdvancedMarkerElement}=awaitgoogle.maps.importLibrary("marker")asgoogle.maps.MarkerLibrary;constmyLatlng={lat:-25.363,lng:131.044};constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map")asHTMLElement,{zoom:4,center:myLatlng,mapId:"DEMO_MAP_ID",});constmarker=newgoogle.maps.marker.AdvancedMarkerElement({position:myLatlng,map,title:"Click to zoom",});map.addListener("center_changed",()=>{// 3 seconds after the center of the map has changed, pan back to the// marker.window.setTimeout(()=>{map.panTo(marker.positionasgoogle.maps.LatLng);},3000);});marker.addListener("click",()=>{map.setZoom(8);map.setCenter(marker.positionasgoogle.maps.LatLng);});}initMap();
Note: Read theguide on using TypeScript and Google Maps.

JavaScript

asyncfunctioninitMap(){// Request needed libraries.const{Map}=awaitgoogle.maps.importLibrary("maps");const{AdvancedMarkerElement}=awaitgoogle.maps.importLibrary("marker");constmyLatlng={lat:-25.363,lng:131.044};constmap=newgoogle.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"),{zoom:4,center:myLatlng,mapId:"DEMO_MAP_ID",});constmarker=newgoogle.maps.marker.AdvancedMarkerElement({position:myLatlng,map,title:"Click to zoom",});map.addListener("center_changed",()=>{// 3 seconds after the center of the map has changed, pan back to the// marker.window.setTimeout(()=>{map.panTo(marker.position);},3000);});marker.addListener("click",()=>{map.setZoom(8);map.setCenter(marker.position);});}initMap();
Note: The JavaScript is compiled from the TypeScript snippet.

CSS

/* * Always set the map height explicitly to define the size of the div element * that contains the map. */#map{height:100%;}/* * Optional: Makes the sample page fill the window. */html,body{height:100%;margin:0;padding:0;}
