Page Summary
The
areamethod returns the area of a geometry, with points and line strings having an area of 0 and multi geometries having an area equal to the sum of their components.The method takes optional
maxErrorandprojarguments to specify the maximum tolerated error during reprojection and the desired output projection, respectively.The method returns a Float value representing the calculated area.
| Usage | Returns |
|---|---|
Point.area(maxError,proj) | Float |
| Argument | Type | Details |
|---|---|---|
this:geometry | Geometry | The geometry input. |
maxError | ErrorMargin, default: null | The maximum amount of error tolerated when performing any necessary reprojection. |
proj | Projection, default: null | If specified, the result will be in the units of the coordinate system of this projection. Otherwise it will be in square meters. |
Examples
Code Editor (JavaScript)
// Define a Point object.varpoint=ee.Geometry.Point(-122.082,37.42);// Apply the area method to the Point object.varpointArea=point.area({'maxError':1});// Print the result to the console.print('point.area(...) =',pointArea);// Display relevant geometries on the map.Map.setCenter(-122.085,37.422,15);Map.addLayer(point,{'color':'black'},'Geometry [black]: point');
