Math.sinh()

Baseline Widely available

This feature is well established and works across many devices and browser versions. It’s been available across browsers since July 2015.

TheMath.sinh() static method returns the hyperbolic sine of a number. That is,

𝙼𝚊𝚝𝚑.𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚑(𝚡)=sinh(x)=exex2\mathtt{\operatorname{Math.sinh}(x)} = \sinh(x) = \frac{\mathrm{e}^x - \mathrm{e}^{-x}}{2}

Try it

console.log(Math.sinh(0));// Expected output: 0console.log(Math.sinh(1));// Expected output: 1.1752011936438014console.log(Math.sinh(-1));// Expected output: -1.1752011936438014console.log(Math.sinh(2));// Expected output: 3.626860407847019

Syntax

js
Math.sinh(x)

Parameters

x

A number.

Return value

The hyperbolic sine ofx.

Description

Becausesinh() is a static method ofMath, you always use it asMath.sinh(), rather than as a method of aMath object you created (Math is not a constructor).

Examples

Using Math.sinh()

js
Math.sinh(-Infinity); // -InfinityMath.sinh(-0); // -0Math.sinh(0); // 0Math.sinh(1); // 1.1752011936438014Math.sinh(Infinity); // Infinity
