HTMLMediaElement: seeking event

Baseline Widely available

This feature is well established and works across many devices and browser versions. It’s been available across browsers since ⁨July 2015⁩.

Theseeking event is fired when a seek operation starts, meaning the Booleanseeking attribute has changed totrue and the media is seeking a new position.

This event is not cancelable and does not bubble.

Syntax

Use the event name in methods likeaddEventListener(), or set an event handler property.

addEventListener("seeking", (event) => { })onseeking = (event) => { }

Event type

A genericEvent.

Examples

These examples add an event listener for the HTMLMediaElement'sseeking event, then post a message when that event handler has reacted to the event firing.

UsingaddEventListener():

const video = document.querySelector("video");video.addEventListener("seeking", (event) => {  console.log("Video is seeking a new position.");});

Using theonseeking event handler property:

const video = document.querySelector("video");video.onseeking = (event) => {  console.log("Video is seeking a new position.");};
