"Why I Don’t Have a Portfolio"

Let me guess your excuse:

  1. “I’ve been too busy with client work.”

Oh, so busy you can't spend 2 hours showcasing how “busy” you are? Nice flex, but where’s the proof? 🕵️‍♂️

  2. “I’m waiting to finish my dream project.”

Spoiler: It’s never getting done. Just deploy that half-baked masterpiece already. 🍰

  3. “I don’t need one, my skills speak for themselves.”

No portfolio? Skills must be whispering, huh? 🤫

Here’s the reality check:

Your portfolio isn’t just a website—it’s your recruiter magnet 🧲. It screams:

💼“I know what I’m doing—hire me!”

It’s how you build trust and win clients who don’t just take your word for it.

My Revamp Story 💡

Even I was guilty of waiting for the “perfect time” to update my portfolio. But guess what? I sat down for just ONE DAY and revamped mine. From a basic setup atOld Portfolio to a sleek and functional showcase atNew Slick Portfolio—it’s proof that it doesn’t have to take forever.

Now it’s ready to impress, inspire, and win clients. (And yes, you can borrow it 😉).

Drop a comment saying“I want”, and I’ll send you the GitHub link.

Stop making excuses. Start winning clients. Deploy. The. Thing. 🚀

I don't have a portfolio because they're really not necessary. All the best developers I've hired have not had one, and a large percentage of the ones who did have a portfolio site were some of the weakest candidates.

Any hiring team that knows what they're doing will place little weight on a portfolio site (unless it's something truly interesting and original).

An active, interesting and unvarnished GitHub/Gitlab/whatever account will tell them FAR more about the candidate than a curated vanity portfolio site ever could.

It's also important not to confuse finding a job with finding a client as a freelancer: The bakery around the corner looking to improve its website might care much more about reference projects; a company looking for a new developer will look at vastly different things and, unless you're coming from a freelancing background, you probably won't have any work projects to show off anyway.

your portofolio looks just awesome. but i want to point out that the modal asking about what i'm there for re-opens annoyingly, even if i close it it still pops up. also, you have 2 close icons on the same modal.

Do yourself a massive favour and switch back to your old portfolio.

It's pleasant to look at, has a sense of professionalism and is super simple to navigate. The important information is easily visible and it takes next to no mental effort to find all the important info. The only thing that's a bit unpleasant about it is the contrast of the text to the background image, but that's an easy fix.

The new portfolio feels extremely cluttered. The code box on the right draws way too much attention, specially being animated. The annoying modal that repeatedly opens on its own would normally make me immediately close any website. The close button on that is broken, by the way.

It's just over-filled with toy-features that are technically cool, but make the finished website a pain to use. If you want to show off those things, have a section linking to your favourite codepens, or simply let your previous projects speak for themselves.

If you want a great portfolio, build a better project showcase for your old portfolio, with more screenshots and stuff, and call it a day.

Agreed.

Also, it needs padding on the left edges, and the pop up that keeps showing up is annoying
