TheCHARACTER_SETS table provides information about available character sets.
TheCHARACTER_SETS table has these columns:
CHARACTER_SET_NAMEThe character set name.
DEFAULT_COLLATE_NAMEThe default collation for the character set.
DESCRIPTIONA description of the character set.
MAXLENThe maximum number of bytes required to store one character.
Notes
Character set information is also available from theSHOW CHARACTER SET statement. SeeSection 15.7.7.4, “SHOW CHARACTER SET Statement”. The following statements are equivalent:
