Chapter 3 Client Error Message Reference

Client error messages originate from within the MySQL client library. Here is an example client error message, as displayed by themysql client:

$> mysql -h no-such-hostERROR 2005 (HY000): Unknown MySQL server host 'no-such-host' (0)

Each client error message includes an error code, SQLSTATE value, and message string, as described inError Message Sources and Elements. These elements are available as described inError Information Interfaces. For client errors, the SQLSTATE value is always'HY000' (general error), so it is not meaningful for distinguishing one client error from another.

The client library also makes available to host client programs any errors that originate on the server side and are recieved by the client from the server. For a list of server-side errors, seeChapter 2,Server Error Message Reference.

In addition to the errors in the following list, the client library can also produce error messages that have error codes in the range from 1 to 999. SeeChapter 4,Global Error Message Reference
