Besson also wrote the screenplay based on Bram Stoker’s timeless — immortal? — novel. The pic reunites the veteran French filmmaker with hisDogmanstar Jones. AsBesson told Deadline last year, his interest in the new movie wasn’t spurred by any particular interest in the Dracula tale but rather his lead actor’s appeal.
“It’s not Dracula, my fascination is Caleb,” he said in the interview. “We were just chatting about other roles that could work for him. I said, ‘You’d be great as Dracula.’ Then, I thought, ‘You know what, I’m just going to write it.”

I was totally blown away by Caleb Landry Jones in Dracual A Love Tale. I had always loved Bram Stoker’s version, and I love Gary Oldman, but this movie startled and surpirse me. I am not used to sobbing during any movies of late, but I found myself crying through this one. Caleb is completely immersed in this character and is an amazing actor. I have since watched everything he has done and I ask myself “How have I been missing this amazing talent. Thanks to wonderful and amazing Luc Beeson and his eye for talent and directing talent. I hope the public takes notice!!!!

I have nothing but respect for Luc Besson… Léon: The Professional and The Fifth Element are two of my favorite films… But it looks like he’s ripping off Coppola’s Dracula a whole lot, down to the exact look of the setting in a whole lot of scenes, and he’s doing it less than a year after Robert Eggers released Nosferatu.
He had a surprising hit with Lucy in 2014, but that was his first box office success SINCE The Fifth Element, over 15 years prior, and it was his only one since, so I’m guessing he’s trying to ride the coattails of the current vampire fad that Nosferatu brought on, but it’s a bit late since most people have stopped talking that one months ago.

This would appear to have more of a connection to Coppola’s film than Stoker. The whole historic love story and the Elisabeta character was a saccharine invention by Coppola, and plays no part in Stoker’s book. Do we really need a remake of a film that was ultimately a failure?

Thanks for quoting the cornball dialogue, Deadline. You saved me the effort of watching the trailer.
No more Dracula movies until someone comes up with a fresh idea.

Big shoes to fill after Gary Oldmans fantastic performance. We will see, I guess.
