Sony said Wednesday thatBeyond the Spider-Verseis shifting its release date a week earlier to Father’s Day weekend, a rich time for animated movies and historically occupied by Pixar movies. As we know, Pixar originals haven’t been faring well post-Covid, withEliorecently crashing to a $20.8 million domestic start, finaling at $73M stateside and just more than $154M worldwide.

For those motion picture studios in need of major release date before July 4th, June 25 is now open, that is unless Universal/DreamWorks Animation’sShrek 5decides to move up from its Wednesday, June 30, 2027 date.

PREVIOUSLY, July 18:Fans will have to wait three weeks longer for Sony’s threequelSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is now opening on June 25, 2027 instead of June 4, 2027.
2018’sSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewon an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Together with 2023’sSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,the movies about the alter-verse of Spider-Man, Miles Morales and all his web-slinging friends has amassed $1.08 billion at the global box office.
Given how a new animation style is invented with each installment, there’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into these movies. WhenAcross the Spider-Versehad its world premiere in June 2023, we were told by a source close to the film that that print was wet; the filmmakers worked on the feature to the last minute.
Part 3 of the series finds Morales on the run, and his friends like Gwen might not be able to save him. As fans may recall at the end of Across the Spider-Verse, he discovered that a parallel version of him had transformed into the villainous Prowler in an iteration of Earth that lacks a Spider-Man and features a lawless New York City.
The movie has been moved a few times on the calendar. It originally had a theatrical release date of March 29, 2024, and was pushed back in July 2023 due to the strikes.
Beyond the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson and written by David Callam, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller produce with Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Jinko Gotoh.
Also added to the release-date calendar isSony Pictures Animation’sBuds,on March 12, 2027.

I’d rather wait a decade more than get a rushed movie. These movies are so good, they almost restore my faith in humanity.
