James Gunn’sSuperman has addedWill Reeve, son of the lateSuperman starChristopher Reeve, in a cameo role, according tolocal reporting out of Cleveland, where production is currently in motion.

While reps forWarner Bros andDC could not be reached for comment, the younger Reeve will reportedly be playing a TV reporter, which is fitting given his real-world work as a correspondent for ABC News.

Reeve’s father Christopher is indelibly linked to theSupermanfranchise, having become the definitive portrayal of the iconic superhero for an entire generation. His relationship with the franchise began in 1978, when he was cast as the titular character in Richard Donner’sSuperman: The Movie, and he went on to don the cape in three sequels between 1980 and 1987:Superman II,Superman III, andSuperman IV: The Quest for Peace.

The elder Reeve’s story is at the heart ofSuper/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, a documentary directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, which premiered to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select U.S. theaters via DC Studios and Fathom Events on September 21, with an encore presentation to follow on Christopher Reeve’s birthday, September 25. The doc chronicles Reeve’s astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star, and how his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today, also examining the near-fatal horse-riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down in 1995, and his work later in life as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care.

An international theatrical rollout for the doc is also forthcoming at a date not yet disclosed.

The first title in a revamped DC slate overseen by studio bosses Gunn and Peter Safran,Superman will follow the superhero of the same name as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet assumes the role of Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as the villain Lex Luthor. Others set for roles in the highly anticipated Warner Bros feature, as previously announced, include Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce and Beck Bennett, to name just a few.

Gunn is directing from his own script, which draws on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Safran produces the pic, which is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
